compulsory overtime

But that may not be practical if a course is run on or has availability on or is best suited to the majority, on say Fridays, or in July only, and the PT worker does not work then. Surely a bit of give and take is all that is required?
the majority of the staff are now TERM TIME only.0 -
Because unfortunately that doesn't always fit with the needs of the service. Training costs money...even inhouse training has a resource footprint.
So imagine you have 30 staff who all need training in a particular subject and this subject can be taught in groups of 15 - the company decides to put on 2 training courses (amount of staff divided by capcity of the course) and they employ a trainer to provided the 2 sessions at a cost of £300 per day. Those sessions run on a Wednesday and a Friday (for arguements sake). Unfortunately there are 3 people who only work on a Monday and 1 person on a Thursday. Should the company be expected to spend another £600 on training these 4 people separately? Is that fair on the workforce as a whole who may have to miss out on other training because the budget has been blown training the minority? I work for a training department and while we try to put courses on a range of days, even we can't meet everyones needs and we train over 3000 staff in over 100 courses each year.Good Enough Club member number 27(2) AND I got me a stalkee!

Because ive done it before and I still for the life of me cant understand why people need to be educated in how to provide service to your customer
.
Can you understand for the life of you why people need training in how to use a computer or how to manage staff or how to work as a team or how to communicate effectively with distressed individuals or how to write records effectively or how to write a CV....?
I'm afraid the reason is identical and very simple. We aren't born knowing how to do stuff. Some of your colleagues may not be a blessed as you are with customer service skillsGood Enough Club member number 27(2) AND I got me a stalkee!

oh god i know their not, why do you think they arranged the cource in the first place? Fair enough make the people who they have had complaints about take the cource but why make everyone suffer0 -
why make everyone suffer
It really makes my day when I get people on my courses who feel like it is a pennance they are being made to come. Really makes me feel like my job is respected and worthwhile.
It is begining to come across that ACTUALLY you resent being made to go to a course on something that you think you are perfect in and can't possibly be taught anything from. TBH, the trainer probably doesn't want you there any more than you want to be there with an attitude like that. It makes our lives pretty rough. What is fantastic though is to have a member of the group who has excellent skills to provide a little peer group pressure to change attitudes to the subject matter. Thats really helpful.
I wouldn't go if I were you, after all, things never change do they?
I don't think you need my help any more either.
Good LuckGood Enough Club member number 27(2) AND I got me a stalkee!

Sorry morty I didnt mean suffer the cource, if it were being run during my contracted hours I would attend and participate fully.
I actually really enjoy a good training session with someone who knows their subject.0 -
We have to undergo 30 hours of staff development every year some of it after hours and unpaid in the form of courses which have a recognised qualifiction ie NCFE. I work term time only but it still applies to me pro rata, even those on relief contracts are asked to attend and they are not paid.
This is par for the course now and if your contract does not actually state term time but specifies xxxx hours you have no beef.
Similarly, a provisional date is just that a date you should keep free until it is confirmed or not.
The employer has to pay the usual rate for any compulsory training their staff attend."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0
