But you have attended it in the past, which would give your employer the impression that you were okay about it.

I can really see both sides of it, to be honest.

You really need to know what it says in your contract about extra hours and training.

In the past they have always asked if im ok to attend, and the notice was before I was informed by the school there was a problem.

As far as I can see the OP is being awquard for being awquards sake

I cant say any of the reasons listed are convincing reason not to attend a one day course she would be paid for

I have to question whether she has other issues with her employer and is being a pain for the sake of it.

Im sure refusal to attend will have them questioning your long term commitment and suitability also

Yes I do have loads of other issues with them, or rather the company who my actual contract is with, but then thats well known and the employer sympathises with me on them,
excessive wait for contract ( 6 months),
not provided facility to claim expences for 5 months, claims being rejected for no reason for 3 months
then another 4 months of not being given admin time to compleate claims, so that i have only now been paid 12 months expences,
then last month i realised that they were over paying me,
I informed them and asked to make arrangments to pay back monthly, they did at the time say that i could work over the holidays to reduce the amount and as i said at the time I took the job to spend as much time at home as possible and did not want to work anymore hours than i had to, and then doubled my offer of repayment - Im still waiting for them to reply to this.

all the above is the reason Im looking for other jobs.

Well it very much depends on what you call compulsory? we are given the date well in advance and it is made pretty clear that we are required to attend.

Now, I am not saying we would be sacked for non attendance but they would take a dim view and it would come up as not meeting objectives on our appraisal, as SD is always an objective.

Obviously if their were miittigating circs family illness, wedding etc exceptions would probably be made, but not every time, and it would come to a point where it would be deemed unacceptable.

I would've thought that as a lone parent working part time you'd be glad of the extra money. If it were unpaid time I could understand your being miffed but paid - not really.

And as I told them in the interview when they questioned my taking a reduction in wages to take the job some things are more important than money.

Anyway it's a mute point, Ive just been in to see the person in charge to update them on my personal circumstances and let them know Im still not being paid correctly and they have confirmed that any training done out of term time is voluntary.

I can think of very few types of training which may be deemed as compulsory for non professionals. What is the purpose of the training?

    whats CPD?

    Continuing Professional Development.

I'm still not sure exactly what it is that you do OP? Can I assume that whatever it is never needs to be updated / refreshed / accomodate legislation or procedural changes?

I still think you should check the terms & conditions of employment and also your contract. If you just don't bother turning up , they may have good reason to start disciplinary action against you. How long have you worked there?

They're going to be so willing to give another lone parent a job when you eventually leave!
lmao, get real. Apart from it being gross discrimination, it'sd hardly like Lill is commiting some heinous crime. Just asking for the hours that were agreed at interview. I can't decide who I agree with to be honest because there are good arguements on both sides. Lill, have you tried approaching your manager and actually SPEAKING to them?! Instead of getting heavy with a letter why not try approaching someone and explaining whats going on for you? You might just find they are human and sympathetic to your cause. If it's in house couldn't someone cascade the relevant training to you when you return to work after the holidays?

I think you are very lucky to have found an employer who will allow you to work part time/term time only and I think a couple of days in the hols might not be too much to ask but it does seem they are maybe taking the pee.

I come from the standpoint of someone who was refused point blank to be allowed to go back part time after I had my DS "because of the role I play in the team" (despite my offering them at least 3 legitimate ways around the 'problem')so I know what unfair is trust me. I tried to bend over backwards to accomodate them accommodating me returning part time to no avail and due to stress and PND I didn't have the strength to fight them any more. I would love to be allowed that much CPD in a year and if that meant me taking some of it unpaid, i'm afraid I would.

Anyway, this probably hasn't helped. Just my 2p worth.

Oh and I only got as far in the thread as the quote I hae used so forgive me if I have repeated anything already said.
