    Most contracts have a clause in re training requirements or overtime as needed so I am sure they will have covered themselves.

    Agree with this...every contract I've ever had has had a clause in saying "you may on occasion be required to work extra hours [as we see fit]" - I thought as long as they were reasonable about giving you notice etc there's not much you can do about i...

    he could have been 6 month old for all they know, is that any reason for them not stating that they would require me to attend training during none term time?
    Why would they be unwilling to give another lone parent a job when i leave? its not like ive refused to do any training at all.

    now thats one thing im 99.9% sure it does not say, one of the things i did check for is the and " and other" clause.

    As has been said it is only yours hours which are term time, training will be under the type of clause shown above. If he is 14,then it is not the single parent bit which is annoying you is it? because he could be left all day once in a while for a training day. I presume your colleagues know his age so are likely to have little sympathy on that front.

    no whats annoying me is that after 12 months of being in the job im being told that training and other "events" that can be held during none term time is compulsery, we have always been asked to attend before with the sweetener that we will be paid for the time, not
    here is an excerpt from an email requesting me to attend previously


    XXXXX can you please be available to attend, I know you work term time only, but i will arrange for either time off or paid time




    as it turned out I had to wait 2 months to be paid for that one, as the payment did not go through the first month, so i asked for time in lieu instead and was refused as they dont allow time off in term time.

    Things have changed now and SD is compulsory for us term time or not. My hours finished in MAY but I had to attend a full day SD on June 26th!

    I've re-arranged courses for staff with very small children, or arranged them so that they don't have to stay overnight, but a 14 year old is (and should be) a different story (IMO).

    You aren't entitled to time off for your son when he is ill, for instance, because of his age.

    No he is in the process of being tested for dysparaxia, his school is concerned about his interacting with other children, they have arranged for him to go on summer school ( not the weeks that are at issue) so that he does not become isolated over the holidays.

    Besides this is not the issue the issue is that at no time have i been told that i would be required to attend compulsory training.
