I phoned Orange for a third time praying it's not true - they are definitey bringing in these charges on 1/12/05. Oh well, it was good while it lasted...
I am (was!) a very heavy user of QxDial - Vodafone here I come...

If you are lucky it it set to last for another year (or more). Some forum members (me included) have been 'promised' a free freephone bundle for 12 months. Ring them and see what they say.

I have to say I am a little dumbfounded by all of this - 0800 numbers means FREE PHONE. To charge is ridiculous...........I`ve been with Orange for 11 years and in the past they have been great. Last year I threatened to leave and go to `3`. It was a bit of a bluff as their customer service is `allegedly` shocking. Orange almost matched the `3` tariff ie 500 mintes and 30 text (as opposed to 100 with 3) for £25 / month. Although you have to go through to cancellations to get this deal !

Good luck - keep the pressure on
    Waddle you do eh?

In all fairness Orange was the only mobile network that didn't charge for 0800 calls. All the other networks do charge for these. o2 and Voda have always charged for these.

Pin, Orange was not the only network not to charge for freecall number range.

At one time T-mobile and virgin did. But one by one, starting with pay as you go, they turn it off.

yep, sorry should have made that clear. Aware that both those two did in the past, but that is not the case now.

  • I've only just took out a contract with orange a few days ago - not got my terms and conditions on paper yet... does anyone know if there'll be a bit in it about this new charge for 0800 numbers? would I possibly be able to get the 12 months hold-off on it?

I was promised a 'freephone bundle' by customer services on the 8th, who said they had to email retentions and then would text me that it had been applied to my account. As I'd heard nothing by today I called retentions, who tell me "no-one here knows anything about freephone bundles - so we can't apply one to your account"?:wall: :wall:

Any-one know what's going on? I've got a new contract and I specified I wanted 0800 numbers free, so I'll cancel the contract and keep my new phone if I have to.

The comments I have had (in writing) from the CEO's office states they will give the freephone bundle to ensure people like you don't claim breach of contract. They informed me that they will check my account at the end of this month to ensure the bundle is added before charging starts on the 1st Dec. Just keep pushing them for the bundle.

Excuse my ignorance, what is the access number 0200 as 2ax repeatedly mentions?

I just saw these threads that orange would charge 0800 from December, do the cahnges and charges apply to 0845 and 0870 also? I am on everyday 50. I tried to call orange to check with them, seems like there is a long wait, anyone got any information on this?
