It appears Orange are prepared to waive the freephone charges, at least for some customers. See http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=102901&page=10&pp=10

So Orange will give free calls until the due date on the contract. If there is no breach of contract then there are no grounds to end it.

Something of a downer for all those fantasies about ending the contract early, and ending up with a spare phone.

My contract is cancelled anyway (12 months up). A new question arises - if someone were to start a new contract tomorrow, would they be able to insist on free 0800 calls for a year if this new info does not appear in the contract? - seems likely to me, but no point in starting with an OVP tariff ...

I have had an email from Orange, it states:

    Dear XXXXX,

Thank you for your email dated earlier today.

Having spoken to our Retentions Department they have confirmed that when the freephone bundle is applied to an account, this remains for a 12-month period. Therefore, if this is applied on 1 November 2005 it will end on 31 October 2006.

I trust this clarifies this matter.

    Yours sincerely

    XXXXX

It obviously is not the right thing to do.But thats what Orange say the are going to do in a recent E-Mail.(Only notify customers who have made an 0800 call in last six months.)

Just got my bill today and its on there, so thats the end of my long lasting love affair with orange, the future is anything but bright, vodaphone here we come I think.

Are they allowed to do this legally, any eagles out there ;)

You should ask Orange for the 12 months free of charge freephone bundle.

I am still waiting for confirmation but the 'top man' (his female assistant actually) has made me the offer in an email.

How do you suggest I ask? Did you just mail CS direct for a kick off? I dont really fancy calling Orange to be honest as I find them very frustrating and unsure of themselves at the best of times

    I had 2 attempts.

Emailed CEO of Orange and had several responses from his assistant. She offered me the 12 months and I am waiting for her to confirm it has been processed (asked for it to start 1st Dec i.e. when the charges were due to start).

Emailed customer services, received acknowledgement 4 days ago but nothing since.

i needed an extra push to bin my orange contract and this is it. this was one fo the perks of orange. i'll be ported over to an o2 online PAYG sim on thursday, and will miss my delivery reports, but 300 texts for a £10 topup is a better offer than anything orange have come up with recently.

Orange are aware some customers will want to leave and that is why they are deferring the charges for up to 12 months for certain customers. I guess they will only defer if they value your account or you have only just taken out a contract (in which case they would be in breach and you could terminate the contract).
