I'm currently trying to sell thousands of books for a charity shop.

For any reference books which are still relevant today, sell them on Amazon. We have sold a female art book for £20 and today sold a literature book for £5. These books sell because they are not mainstream, not the ones you will find in the front window of Waterstones.

For any paperback books, I would either sell them as a job lot on Ebay, or donate them to a charity shops. I personally wouldn't use Green Met or Amazon for these as the sales are so low. The only way to sell used paperback books is to either have a shop or market stall, and sell them for 50p-£1 each.
  • A few pubs in my area have book swap shelves, where you don't have to bring one in on the same visit you take one, you can bring books another time. They suggest that readers make a small donation for the charity box each time they take a book.
  • Just registered for the readitswapit site and have listed quite a few books on that today already - a great chance to change some books that have stayed in the same place for about 5 years!
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!

What about swapshop.co.uk ? You don't make any money, but each time you swap you get points, so you can get books - or something else - from them.

I list on GreenMetropolis and swapshop, and swapshop is much busier! I am working on a "one out, one in" policy at the moment (in the hope of one day being tidy) and am having lots of success with swapshop this way!

Is Tazbar good for selling then? It fees are cheap but I was not sure how well stuff sold.

    Hi

Never posted on this board before but I have a question if I may. I have the 20 Patrick O Brian novels that I have now finished reading and I want to sell them on ebay. Should I sell them as one or separately. I am grateful for any advice you can give.

As a fellow ebay-er, I'd try selling a few seperately to start with (maybe 5 seperate auctions, remeber to check postage weights on royalmail website). Then, any that don't sell, throw into 1 auction. This way, you will find out whether people want the books, without starting an auction at a high price for all 20 in one go, or having 20 nearly-identical auctions running at once.

Listing all 20 as one auction could also be a Parcel Force job, rather than a load of little parcels you can take to the post office (if you can find one ;) ).

Good luck with the auction (s).

The above strategy seems to be a good one. I listed about 30 books separately recently, I've ended up with 4 unsold after re-listing those that didn't sell the first time.

If you offer combined postage on multiple wins and put in your listing that you are selling a lot of similar items at the moment, you might find buyers will take more than one. I had a buyer who took 5 which is always handy!

personally I would check out completed listings and also Amazon before you list them. A lot of the books are going unsold on ebay even at 99p where as others are going at £3-£5 each.

Looking at this auction 220158130780 for instance shows that he got £14.07 for 15 novels.
