You could use www.readitswapit.co.uk
You list all your books with a basic description, then you search for what you would like to read, select swap this book (or alike) and the owner of that book is notified and shown your available list.
I used it for several months and it worked really well,

Give Green Metropolis a try, sell books for 3.00 and buy for 3.75.
Have used them to buy and sell and seem quite reliable.

Hope this helps.

Firstly a good suggestion.
They are an easy site to list on and of course free, but the only problem is turnover is very very slow.
I have sold one book on there since may. So if you are looking to sell quickly maybe try elsewhere.0 -
amazon and ebay are the best places to sell but SH book prices are very low. you make the money on the PP.
if you want rid quick then the charity shop sounds like the best idea.
ie oxfam have a few dedicated book shops about. a worthy cause.
specialist books can bring good prices though, ive just sold an aviation book on ebay for 15 quid plus 3 quid PP.Get some gorm.0 -
Hi Guys,
Just wanting a bit of advice really, i have a basement full of books in good condition just sitting there collecting dust and I am in dire need of some fast cash. Does anyone know the best way I can sell the books off, even if its just a few quid each, its better than nothing!!!!

Amazon or Ebay to be honest are your best bets.
What sort are they? or just a mixture of all sorts?0 -
try selling them on amazon.co.uk
if they are large, heavy ones, then try ebay.
what sort of books are they? because if they are academic and reference ones, now's the time to get rid of them!
also, do you have any second hand bookshops nearby? they will either buy them or exchange for credit with you.0 -
How about gumtree i have sold on the there not books but a few things that didn't have an interest elsewhere. You could do a job lot of the smaller less value ones. Alot less faffy than individually selling and sending little ones out.
http://www.gumtree.com/ this takes you to the main homepage which is london look on the right hand side and see if anywhere near you has a page. I am 15miles from the main page for my area and mangaged ok. Gumtree is FREE
Also tried http://www.friday-ad.co.uk/Home.asp anothe rlocal to me one but you can search nationaly so might be worth a go as its free!
Check theresale prices on amazon, play and ebay as mentionedd before though first though andgood luck

unfortunately, due to the nature of ebay it is a bad place to sell books (but great to buy)
unless you have valuable or rare books, i wouldnt bother.
it costs a minimum of 20p to list a book (under normal auction conditions) and very few sell, in fact you may only sell one in 5 even at 99p so you end up paying ebay more than you receive.
the reason for this, is because when someone searches for a book, there are usually several titles that come up - and automatically they look for the best price/condition combination possible and place a bid. they then wait for that bid to run its course, and if unsuccessful have another go later, maybe on another auction. there is a constant supply of each title0 -

i use the above website to sell books - i have sold loads - you sell each book at 3 pounds and its really easy to put books on, just the isbn number and it will display the book. you decide the P&P and you get an email each time you sell one with all details of where to send - i have had no problems, its much easier then ebay - you are also helping environment - it explains on website how you are helping the environment.
I love it - it keeps your books listed for 6 months and it free to post as many as you like - which is alot better than ebay - i think i may of got the website originally from money saver anyway.
you can tranfser money into your bank whenever you want on your account page
hope this helps0
