You aren't the only one. The only thing holding me back is the age thing. I've debated joining for the last couple of years, every time I go to the Knit & Stitch Show at Ally Pally, I talk to them and I'm running out of objections, since I'm catching up in age (although in my head, I'm permanently 34....)."Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.'
It ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it - that’s what gets results!

Just checked out my local group, and it is a WI 'Lite', and thriving apparently. So young blood is definitely both wanted and needed.0

Perhaps you should join other interest groups that do the same things but don't exclude half of the population based on their gender0

Hi threemuttleys,
Have a look at this older thread where people discuss their experiences with the WI. I think you'd be made very welcome.

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the replies together.

I belong to the WI and our youngest member is just 30.Everyone seems to get on well.
You can go to a couple of meetings without joining to see if you like it.It can be a bit hectic at the start of some meetings. We have to set our hall up ourselves so a lot of people are dashing around getting out mugs, moving tables etc.One woman came to one of our meetings and left after 20 minutes. We later found out that she had told peope that we were an unfriendly lot so now we do try to make sure that someone "takes charge" of visitors.0 -
Is there a minimum age limit on this? Im almost 28 xCan't think of anything smart to put here...0

My mums WI is full of fogeys (not mum though), which is a real shame. Most of the other local ones round here are fine. So if you do find an intimidating branch, try another.Put the kettle on.0

I joined in my mid-late 30s and had baby no 4 whilst a member - which all the older members loved. I was the youngest when I joined (by 10 years) but there are now a couple of others marginally younger than me.
WI needs younger members to keep it's ideas fresh!
Give it a go - you can go around 3 times as a guest before joining - and that's at each group, so you should try a few local to you (if more than one is possible) - the 'mix' of people in them can be quite differentI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
The meeting is next wednesday...Im thinking I might bake a batch of cakes, with frosting, and see if they dont bite. I am thinking I like most of what they do, so it seems daft for me to not at least give it a couple of gos,.
thanks all, I shall post back next week xxx0
