Oh thanks for that Pink, off to have a read!0

We begin with coffee and a chat as we meet in the mornings. Then we usually have a speaker-we try to have a good mix of topics-some serious and some more light hearted. Cooking demonstrations are difficult for us as there are no facilities for them in the hall where we meet but we try to have at least one craft demonstration each year where members can make something .
While the speaker is clearing up we have more coffee . Then we have the business part of the meeting-minutes are read and any matters arising are dealt with, there's usually some correspondence either from headquarters or from other local groups. On a national level the WI does quite a bit of campaiging and our WI does try to get involved in various local issues-we've helped with a survey to try and improve the village centre and run a refreshments stall at the station open day.
This is the info I was after :T. It doesn't give you an idea on the WI website at what you actually do at a meeting. I am going down to mine tomorrow night to see if its for me. Just hoping there are a few young 'uns, I'm 34!0 -

Hubby thinks it hilarious, says it will be full of old ladies and I will be the youngest at 34! I just said "oh well just me in the calendar next year then!" :rotfl:
tbh at 34 you may find you are one of the oldest in the group, as due to lack of new blood coming through alot of groups that had older members, disbanded, and new groups, like WIGs and shoreditch sisterhood were set up, that appeal to the younger woman
all groups vary, some are still quite jam and Jerusalem, but others do pole dancing, sky diving, and are quite party orientated. meetings are alot more relaxed nowadays, and are more like a social night out with the girls
slide shows, and talks on architectural churches are a thing of the past, you are more likely to have the local STD clinic come and give you an indepth talk on your vaginal health
you can attend meetings as a visitor (pay weekly), to see whether it is for you or not, and also which group you feel most at home with
most local groups have their own websites, so perhaps have a look at their events list, to see what types of things they participate in, and also how active they are, and how big a group too
id say give it a go. its only £30 for the year membership

That's what I am going to do. I got a lovely e-mail from our HQ chasing me up about it and she said that if you join in October you get 15 months membership for the annual price, so I'm saving money already :rotfl:
I have e-mailed to find out what the age range of the Polesworth group is, just so I can 'prepare' myself0 -
Whereabouts are you Thunderchild? I'm also 34 and keep thinking I'd like to try a meeting. Also wondering if small children are allowed to come along?!0

As both threads are now running side by side on the front page of Old Style, I'll merge them now to avoid confusion.

Ooh! I would hope not! That would put me right off joining.
From reading the previous (old posts) I still can't see where the crafting and cooking fit in. What happens on the weeks that there is no guest speaker or demonstration? Is it then just a general chat amongst yourselves"?"Men are generally more careful of the breed(ing) of their horses and dogs than of their children" - William Penn 1644-1718
We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so that stupid people won't be offended.0 -

I am in Polesworth, half way between Atherstone and Tamworth.
No I don't think children are allowed either. I suppose it depends on your group.0 -
