Aren't we in it yet? When do we get 2 quarters of economic contraction then?
Isn't this a bit like king Canute? It will not be a recession because I say so and all my hangers on agree with me.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Maybe Darling is just relieved the government rejected proposals to cull him

To be fair to him he is really another Spokesperson ..in effect ... Privately he must know that the storm is rapidly approaching if its not here already..Crash Gordon & Tony certainly did last year, this is just the Spin on a bad situation.. Simple as .. Not sure many are fooled anymore, not on these boards at least !!0

AFAICR, the King Canute story was a little different from the way it has kept popping up on these boards in the last few days.
He didn't think he was god-like enough to hold back the tide, he was proving to his court that he was only mortal like the rest of them.
I find Canute fascinating - and his last wife, Emma, even more so....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Good here ain`t it. No more boom and bust. Loving it!!!!0

I suspect we are entering recession now, by the time a recession is confirmed we will already have been in one for some time as the indicators are backwards looking.Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

“I believe our economy will continue to grow,” he said
Strange. Coz they said on the news this week (when they spoke about the loss of 24.5% on M&S shares) that Alan Sugar, who advises the government, said he expect a downturn for 3 to 4 years.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

for historical accuracy: tired of the endless fawning and sycophancy at court, he jumped on one courtier who claimed that the king's stature was such that he could even hold the tides back.
determined to expose the childish boot-licking for what it was, he took the court down to the shore and commanded the waves to stop.
job done.
btw, the spelling of his name varies; '!!!!' is correct (Ithink).
should keep the anagram experts busy for a while.
(clue: chancellor of exchequer 1997 - 2007 ).miladdo0 -
