I've been skimming through these threads as I'm trying to decide on a mattress. Does anyone know of a decent kingsize medium-firm within the 200-300 price range,oh and must be OK for a slatted base? I've read so much stuff now I really don't know what to go for!0

I've also been reading this thread and hope this helps someone with regard to slatted beds - I bought a Sleepeezee Pocketstar 2000 at the end of 2007 from (6% Quidco) to go on a slatted bed frame - it's now the most comfortable bed in the house. I'm now looking for another one but it's not proving the easiest of searches (hence reading this thread.....)***************************************

Hi.
The Sleepeezee Pocketstar 2000 is a non turn mattress (it would have to be to be suitable for a slatted base). The trouble is that this reduces the life of the mattress by a huge amount.
Also the mattress contains 2000 springs (in a king size mattress). I normally recommend a maximum of 1800 or at a push 2000 in a two sided mattress in order to prolong the life of the mattress.
Rather than buy a mattress full of sales gimmicks, the best thing to do if you want a pocket sprung mattress on a slatter bed is either:- Add extra slats to close the gaps up to 1".
- Place a sheet of peg board over the slats to spread the weight out.
- Use a two sided pocket sprung/memory foam mattress which can cope with gaps between the slats of up to 3".

I went to Debenhams today to look at beds and the Sleepeezee Pocketstar 2000 was the most comfortable in the shop. The price I think around £555 for a king-size (5-ft) mattress. They don't seem to have it on their website.
I'm quite tempted by it, though obviously it would be better if it was double-sided.0 -

Oops, correction it was the Touch Pocket 2000. I guess the same product though.

I have inherited a superking size bed frame with two separate slatted bases. After reading this thread, I have decided to go for two single pocket sprung/memory foam mattresses.
The problem is that my son always ends up in our bed at night so I was thinking of buying a superking size mattress topper so he won't feel the gap in the middle. Does anyone know which one I should go for? TIA.0 -

Why don't you just buy a super king size mattress?
If you put a topper on top of a pocket sprung/memory foam mattress then you will stop the mattress working properly.
How far apart are the slats?0 -

Good question, I forgot to mention that I need two separate mattresses because the slatted base can be raised for reading or resting legs. The idea is that when my son learns to sleep in his own bed (one can hope LOL) we get rid of the topper. The slats are very close to each other, I can't measure it because the bed yet is not with me yet. My guess is the slats are 1-2cm apart? Thanks for your advice.0 -

As I preume your son is only a toddler (most parents don't put up with an 18 year old son getting into bed with them), then I doubt that he will be heavy enough to feel any discomfort from lying on the join. The memory foam stands above the steel rod edge on the mattress, so he wouldn't feel that.
Then I suppose when he does get heavy enough to feel any discomfort, it might put him off getting in your bed.0 -
I hear you about the rod, but what about the gap?
I like your theory that it might put him off though :rotfl:0
