I've been following YouTube - Salad Leaves for All Seasons with Charles Dowding approach so my salad leaves are free fresh from the garden cucumber from the greenhouse, radish from the garden I'm happy with a tin of sardines in tomatoe sauce, or Lidl's herring or some cheese or tuna.
For my evening meal I'm just substituting an extra portion of veg Cauli/broccoli/carrots in place of the potatoe/rice/pasta/bread so really there is absolutely no extra cost eating low carb. Because my appetite is less because I keep my vitamin d status high and partly because I'm not eating those foods that raise insulin and also stimulate the appetite I'm not snacking between meals or needing a drink (alcohol) just to tied me over until the next meal is due.
So what I have saved on wine & beer more than covers the cost of eating a bit more meat/cheese/fish than I previously ate.
PS There is a more detailed view of the Vitamin D<>Obesity study here however that summary doesn't take into account the information we already have about the way Vitamin D affects leptin secretion. Common sense should be sufficient to tell us that a paleo style diet works best in a paleo vitamin d status body. If we are eating mainly those foods our bodies evolved over 2million years to get used to and are not eating those foods that are more recent introductions to the human diet (refined carbs, high fructose syrup, sugar) these will be best metabolised by a body that has the same NATURAL level of vitamin D that we attain and maintain by ensuring our bodies basic daily Vitamn D need is met in full. have to agree with ted i dontn find it anymore expensive, i dont eat any pre prepared food which is much more esxpensive.. i buy meat packs at the butchers and am also growing courgettes. tomato, salad leaves and peas etc
i eat tons of salad so thats a big help and one white cabbage will make a load of coleslaw and is not very expensive
i would advise reading one of the books as the whys and wherefores of how it works makes it much easier to stick to
and i have lost over 8stone on atkins. maintaining for almost 3yrs (in fact lost another stone since i called maintenance lol)... and yes it gets easier and u will find u hate eating high carb stuff soon cos it makes u feel so sluggish
keep going everyon

I'm sure the rabbits won't mind too much:D Yes, I'd just grate some cabbage and carrot, mix with mayo - DONE! (as Gordon Ramsay might say:D)
Edit - in fact - maybe I'll make some coleslaw tonight;)

I make coleslaw that's just cabbage and mayo. Can't have carrots yet, and only limited quantities of onion.
I used to live on pasta and pesto. Dirt cheap.
Now I have to have prawns or fish, cheese, organic free range eggs (at almost £4 a dozen)...........................
OH has free range bacon and 95% meat sausages, free range chicken etc.
I spend about £500 a month on food. I used to spend about £200.0 -
Unfortunately for me, I live in a shoebox in the middle of London:rolleyes:, so it's not possible to grow my own food. But in general I do try to buy good quality meat and make that go further by supplementing it with lots of veggies or salad...

my salad leaves are growing in an old plastic container that had mushrooms in on my kitchen windowsill
coleslaw is just white cabbage. mayo and some herbs... no carrot or onion too high in carbs (for atkins induction anyways)... leeks or spring onions are lower... u could put radish in it if u wanted to add some colour
eeek at how much your eggs are luckily the farm up the road does free range for £1.80 a doz..i spend approx £40-50 a week on food for the 3 of us
