i agree about dairy, at times i have cut it a little to aid weightloss... i use extra thick cream and cos its so thick u dont use that much so it doesnt work out that much more expensive,, worse comes to worse i spose u could water the cream down to make it go further

hey ferret welcome to our growing band, we arent dead yet either and i have been lowcarbing for over 4 yrs lol

well done to the losers this week!!

I've been doing Atkins for 4 weeks and 1 day so far and have lost over 1 stone- I love it. I read Dr Atkins book cover to cover and then started it. I felt a lot better after about only 4 days. I have no cravings whatsoever and eat 3 good meals a day with out snacking. I find having an easy supply of low carb foods to hand works. I always have some Babybel's in the fridge, a jar of pickled gerkins and some sliced ham, then if ever peckish i have a breadless sandwich- easy.
I have had no side effects and after trying and failing on weight watchers am so happy to be seeing results and feeling great. The only downside is other people looking down on you when you mention Atkins, however as I have read the book i have no concerns.
I would recommend http://67.210.103.30/atkins/recipes.php for recipe ideas. Good luck and well done!

Well the good thing about cream is I did not feel the need to add sweetener but I think you might with unsweetened soy milk.
  • there's no way I could do low carb without dairy

Plus, we ladies really need to getc calcium ;)
There are plenty of good foodsources of calcium apart from dairy. see WHFoods: calcium

Also bear in mind that Calcium uptake is optimised around 80nmol/l Vitamin D3 status. Most UK adults average 50nmol/l through the year. so in order to make the best of your calcium foodsources or supplements you first need to raise your vitamin D status With an effective amount of the most effective form of the vitamin d3

PS Just tracked down the research supporting MrsXXL 's point about ingestion of milk has been shown to produce an exaggerated hyperglycemic and hyperinsulinemic response. The response is about triple that predicted by the carbohydrate content of fluid milk.

  • That`s interesting MRS XXL, but I think I read some other article in BBC NEWS the other week that said people who drank milk on average lost more weight than those who didn`t. So really, without doing your own tests, you can`t tell which is right.
For instance, you only have to look up reports about the Dangers (or Benefits) of coffee in the news, ....It changes from day to day. Crazy.
Some days, I think there`s just Not Enough News......so, they make something up!!!!
I just tend to pick out some theory that suits me, and go with that.

Yes, that sugar free jelly is pretty nasty, and just tastes of random chemicals.I try to stick to plain and natural food wherever possible.I`m still finding that anything sweet makes me hungry for more sweet stuff, so I guess I`m still not out of the woods yet as far as Carb addiction goes.
You must all be a lot younger than me; my extra weight is more like Middle Age Spread......(groan)
My kids are all growed up and !!!!!!ed off.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Dairy and weight loss hypothesis: an evaluation of the clinical trials.Of 49 randomized trials assessing the effect of dairy products or calcium supplementation on body weight, 41 showed no effect, two demonstrated weight gain, one showed a lower rate of gain, and five showed weight loss. Four of 24 trials report differential fat loss. Consequently, the majority of the current evidence from clinical trials does not support the hypothesis that calcium or dairy consumption aids in weight or fat loss.

Had a couple of low carb sausages for breakfast and plan on an omelet for lunch.

DD(14) has just gone out with a friend and other DD is going out after so it will be nice and peaceful!!!!:j

If I feel up to experimenting might get the ingredients for almond thins and cheesecake later.

I wish Dr D had a book or a bigger website to keep me motivated as I have reached the stage where I feel the fat is not going at all!! My shape is changing though so fingers crossed.
