Hi all, used that tesco value pasta sauce, (was low carb) not nice, someone did warn me it was gloop, had strange consistency, very synthetic looking. Made chilli with it (no beans) and had small amount in a rolled 'pancake' was a nice change but make my own sauce next time.

Also got some reduced price whipping cream from sainsburys, not had it before, quite runny til its whipped so tried it in tea and was very good.

    Hiya!

Happy to report that holland and barretts coconut oil is gorgeous! Had to force myself to put down the spoon :)

454g at h&b is currently £5.99 on website, postage £2 unless order over £25
460g of 'coconoil' is £10.99 with free postage.

    Both very nice :)

edit: no sweetening has taken place with either. No sugar / carbs.

I hate parma ham *spit spit*. I had a chicken thing from M&S that was wrapped in what I thought was bacon and I couldn't understand why it wasn't going crispy. :rotfl:

It's just like thin skinned flesh. (Ok ok so I've been watching too many horror movies lately  )

For some reason my cravings are getting worse around the TOTM. Dont know why that should be since I KNOW Atkins improved them previously. I haven't cheated (but I'm gonna let you know about if I do  :rotfl: ) so I don't know why every month is a little worse than the previous one. I'm having a hard time today so I think I'll sod off to bed early with a book to try to take my mind of it.

Have to say guys, the thought of coconut oil is making me heave. :o

  • Soya is very controversial. For every study that says it's bad for you there's another that says it's good. So who knows. Considering I spend 1h 20m a week breathing in traffic fumes, I'm not too worried about soya.

Hi mercy, what do you use it for??

Coconut oil is very versatile :)

My main reasons for using it are that I need to get more fat in my diet and I am trying to cut down on Omega 6's and improve the Omega 6: Omega 3 ratio. Having ruled out most cooking oils as they have high levels of Omega 6, I am happy to find that although coconut oil has no Omega 3s, it has very few Omega 6s so is easier to off set.

I use it in cooking instead of other oils, frying off onions for curries and anywhere else.

included in casseroles early on it doesn't retain it's coconutty flavour so can be used easily.

Tis nice in black coffee and fruit teas, there you do get the flavour.

Not tried frying eggs in it though I think Ted has. I reckon the stuff from the asian supermarket would be better but I still use butter :)

It is used within the body in a different way than most fats and provides a ready source of energy - great for ketosis, apparently, but I've never measured.

It makes a great facial and hair pre-wash conditioner and is very nice to slather on after a shower :) as it is very 'light' to use and washes off hands / hair easily. Gives great shine for hair :)

There are a few baking recipes I plan to try as I think it can be used there too.

    Whew!

    Well you did ask :)

Also simply off the spoon :) I have a small amout to aid digestion of my Vit D cap in the morn if I haven't had time to eat before I leave the house. Yum!

It's not like swallowing any other oil, feels cold then melts nicely.

It would seem that once again science is a tricky item. I don't know which one is right. Seldom ever do :)

Re: the protein shakes, there's whey protein. That any good?

I've not had a protein shake as I feel I get plenty of that just eating low carb.
