    Ok here we go!.... sigh..

By the age of 16 i'd tried to commit suicide 4 times, not the casual attempts of a teen crying out for help.. but serious attempts to end my life that resulted in me being diagnosed with depression and spending what should have been my GCSE year commited in a full time residential mental hospital, resulting in my going into adult life without a qualification to my name.

For 10 years i yo-yo'd in and out of institutions and various hospitals before eventually settling down and trying to re-build my life with a very understanding and caring man.

For years we watched my moodswings and after about 5 years of kicking and SCREAMING at a doctor who frankly didn't take me seriously i was eventually refered to a womens clinic where it was determind that my moodswings where infact hormonal and not depression, infact at "that" time of the month i could quite easily have killed a person, something my poor beaten husband would testify too.

We spent a few years trying various drugs.. i had enough drugs pumped into my body to stop the monthly cycle of an elephant yet even on the strongest drugs every month the PMT came and i was a danger to myself and to my shame to my kids and husband and i was on the verge of leaving them just to make sure they where safe.

One day the docter suggested i try a change in diet i laughed at her no-way a change of diet could fix my problems, i humored her ... half heartedly changed my diet but there was no-change in my moods, the months passed to no avail.

then one day i was at a dance audition where i was told to "get my fat !!! off stage" before the guy would even watch me dance i was MORTIFIED... seriously.. it was humiliating, (i wont tell you what i weighed but trust me by most peoples standards i was slim) i went home had a cry ... tried various diets mostly your classic starvation types and nothing worked, i'd lose for a bit, stall and pile it all back on, esp at "THAT" time of the month when i seemed to loose all control of what i put in my mouth.

Eventually i resorted to a personal trainer / nutritionist .. she's wonderful she changed my life, she cleaned up my diet we got rid of most carbs, pretty much anything highly processed and the weight fell off me.

But most of all ... since then i've pulled my life together, im totally drug free i no longer need them to control my pmt, i can be a wife and a mother and i feel good about myself for the first time in my life i even went back to school and got a degree.

I can't even begin to express how much impact DIET has in our lives we don't realise the effect food has on our bodys and our minds, but i know i'll personally never underestimate the power of a good diet again.

right now i concider myself a proffesional dieter, because even im not trying to lose weight i watch, weigh and count everything that enter's my mouth.

I know when i've eaten something bad just by the way it makes me feel, but i've gained control of my body in ways alot of people don't understand.. .. the other girls at work hate me (in the nicest possible way) they allways joke that they can't understand how i lose weight eating more in a day than they eat in a week, they also hate the fact that when its competion time, i give myself 12 weeks and they know i'll be sitting at exactly the weight i need by then.

Some say im too extreme, but i disagree.. but tbh im in the best shape of my life both mentally and physically so why the hell would i want to change whats working??

OOOOhh p.s ... fruit is one of the WORST things for creating carb cravings it's notorious, its a very simple suger which creates a quick sharp insulin spike which will make you crave more suger/carbs. If are are going to eat fruit, try grapefruit or berrys but stay WELL WELL away from banana's and apples when ever im training any of my girls i keep them away from fruit till they learn to control cravings, alot of people on diets think they are "being good" eating fruit but the cravings it creates can be killer and just not worth it in my opinon.

Aaw leiela, what an awful start to your adult life.
How inspiring that you were able to change things though.

I have believed for a long time that we really are what we eat (just foung it hard putting it into practice) and lots of illnesses could be 'cured' with the right diet.

My 36 year old son is schizophrenic and i read an article where one doctor believed it was wheat reacting in the gut that was to blame for a lot of the symptoms. I would love him to try removing wheat from his diet but alas, i cant get through to him, i have tried but he is very stubborn. I'm sure he would benefit greatly from a change of diet as we all would if we found our particular triggers.

P.S. If you get time to read this badgerlady...I want your lifestyle :rotfl: you may be tired but it sounds very exciting..

L - salmon salad (tinned salmon, salad leaves, coleslaw, spring onions, grated cheese & 2 cherry toms)
D - likely to be chicken & cheesy leeks again
    Have a good day everyone.

Ooh, thanks sweet, i haven't thought of having tinned salmon, that'd be a nice change for my salad. I always sprinkle over some chopped feta, makes it look soo nice.
:rotfl: Am having cheesy leeks at some point today too. Had few to use up so have made a big bowl but cant eat many so will save me cooking for couple of days.

Brekky is difficult for me, getting slightly fed up of eggs, only slightly tho as i love em.

You don't have any control over what life throws at you.
You DO have control over how you react :)

My sympathies to all with family members who are suffering. Mental health problems can happen to any of us, and diagnosis can be difficult....don`t get me started on the level of resources for this in the NHS!!!
On another subject, how about the GP in Scotland who wants to put a tax on chocolate? At least Radio4 this morning let the sensible guy( who said it was sugar not fat causing problems) have the last word! I had 2 squares of 85% choc, in defiance. Then I didn`t have any breakfast.I actually FORGOT, how about that then?

I went out on a mission to get some coconut oil, but baulked at paying £9.99 in Holland&Barrett.Ended up in the (very) ethnic grocers with a similar size tub for £1.60. However, I was disappointed it didn`t taste of coconut.I think the stuff I was looking forward to must be sweetened. Never mind, what I don`t eat will go as moisturiser and conditioner. Does the H&B stuff taste of anything?

I woke up with a grotty sore throat and the coconut did soothe it. Just as well, because I couldn`t seem to find any sugar-free cough medicine, which I had a feeling I was going to need.(I spent the day yesterday with a poorly friend who`s got a chest infection.....)
I asked before, but no one replied....is anyone else doing Weightwins?

The coconut oil you are after is simply better quality than the one you got. The price difference is a bit of a give away :) I'm sure it will be great for cooking as you don't always want a meal to taste of coconut. It will have all the health benefits too.

The stuff from coconoil tastes fantastic and is not sweetened, although it tastes sweet  . I got the H&B stuff to pick up from neighbour this evening so I'll let you know what it's like.
