i agree hun, you get the maximum benefits grinding them as and when you need them (minimal exposure to air means minimal oxidisation and therefore minimal deterioration of the ground flax) plus it's much cheaper too - but as we always say, this does require an electric grinder :)

I checked the nutritional info on the back and there was no fibre listed at all. I am tempted to buy a grinder to be honest. The last bag I bought in H&B was £4.95 for 500g. How much would the seeds cost? Would 500g of the seed grind down to 500g of ground flax? (silly question I know!!).
  • I paid 83p for a 250g bag of brown linseeds in Tesco "wholefoods" today... that makes up a fair volume for baking etc (obviously it doesn't get any heavier!). And it's literally a few seconds in my lodger's coffee grinder

There is a co-op near me that sells all kinds of seeds and dried pulses for trade prices if you bring your own tupperware... not convenient for everyone though

    Errrr, yes! :rotfl:

(if you grated 500g of cheese you'd still have 500g of cheese, just in smaller bits!)

Last time i looked (last week) H&B were selling whole brown flax seeds on BOGOF - so two 500g bags of seeds for total price of £2-something. Yes weight-for-weight whole and ground would be the same - bit then again physics was never my strong point lol :D

I must be tired tonight :rotfl: . I'll have to buy a grinder. I'll have a look on ebay. What do you guys use? Would an ordinary small coffee grinder do the job or would I be better off getting something like the Magic Bullet?

LOL I was wondering about a slightly different question, in recipes like the flaxbread that ask for tablespoons is that before grinding or after?
