Is flax bread Induction friendly? How many carbs would you count per slice? I'm tempted to try it.
Apparently so, alm - the all-flax version anyways. The original recipe here says 3 grams of carbs for the whole of the orginal smaller quantity recipe (ie using 4 tablespoons of flax). So less than one gram per slice? (I get 4 slices out of the smaller quantity). Although shykins has said she thinks it might be higher. And if you use almond flour as well, or instead of flax, then the carb count will be a bit higher, but I'm not sure how much exactly and I'm also not sure whether almond flour is legal for atkins induction... I have a feeling not... but shykins will know for deffo:)

Talking about instant breads has inspired me to try them this morning, especially as I have soup for my lunch today and I wanted something to go with it.
I made Shykins's recipe, and used half almond flour and half flax. I don't think I added enough cream, as the 'loaf' came out very very crumbly when it was cooked. But the taste and texture reminded me of flapjacks. So I had another go, adding a little water to the mix this time - and a teaspoon of Splenda. Got DD to blind-taste it and she asked me if it was a flapjack! Then I ate the rest, warm, with cream. Delicious! I don't think I'd use it as a bread substitute but sweetened, for pudding - yum!
Next I had a go at Saz's flax bread. Nice texture, and looked just like a mini-loaf! Was quite nice spread with butter, and would definitely be good with soup.0 -
:hello: PMSL re the not talking too much so I could catch up!!! It's going to take me a month!
I have a couple of burning questions that I am sure are answered somewhere in here but for obvious reasons I hope you will understand I am having difficulty finding them!
I have heard the benefits of this for gastric ulcers but also because Ted swears by itCoconut oil... I would like some advice on where to get this (preferably online). I would like a good quality stuff and to not be fleeced! Well this IS the MSE forum! :money: I will keep an eye out for a good indian wholefoods shop too.
I think the very scrummy flax seed bread (linseed is the same and what I am using.... thats right is it?) is stalling me but I am in it for the long run and once I have tried all the scrummy recipes I will save them for when I need them. Almond flour pancakes are also right up there in my delish food category now! :T
Thanks for being here folks... this time round is going to be a scoosh and it's largely due to you. One thing... I wish you'd all quit talking about vino! It's not good and this is NOT confession! You are making me "thirsty" when I normally wouldn't even care!
My motto for this week is also to actually eat! I am reveling in the "no appetite" zone but think that is deffo affecting my weight loss!
Hugs to you all and keep at it!!!!0 -
This week I am trying very very hard to get back on the wagon.
Yesterday I had a chicken leg for breakfast, cheese slices for lunch, cheated with a crisps when we went swimming, but a gorgeous chicken curry for dinner wth veggies.
Curry ~ chicken from Sunday's roast,
onions
peppers
celery
tinned toms
carrots
balti spices
Yummeroo.
Think I shall need to come and see you daily guys, to keep me focused.
Gonn go have scrambled egg with cheese for lunch.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -

Hi Newish, sorry to hear that you haven't lost anything. On my first 10 days on the Atkins Induction I only lost a 1lb. I followed it strictly too. I think that when you don't have a lot to lose (I've ony got 6lbs to lose) its much harder and a lot slower. How do you do your cottage pie? What do you use as the sauce in the meat?
Does anyone have a chicken curry recipe that is suitable on Atkins Induction please?
Cottage pie - mince, leek, mushrooms etc and a jar of Tesco Value Pasta sauce.... The whole jar is only about 7.5 carbs (and only costs 30ish p) and I make enough to feed 5 of us:cool:
I have a few recipes for curry (off pig2twig site) but if I'm in a hurry, I use 1/2 a jar of Tesco Finest Thai Green Curry (about £1.60 ish) and is lush:DIf you think nobody cares whether you're alive or dead, try missing a couple of mortgage payments.
My way is Atkins0 -
i really only eat the instant bread (mostly almond flour) as toast or cake... almond flour is unfortunately not for induction but the all flax version is (yes that is linseed)... i thought it was around 11 carbs for the whole loaf so depends on how many slices u make it into but i could be wrong
hc the mix should have a sort of sludge porridge consistency before u cook it.. i tend to leave it for 5-10 mins to mingle together

Hi all
I didn't realise there were 2 flaxbread recipes (Saz and Shykins)....please can someone post them or give a link to them. Desperate for some bread type stuff :rotfl:
By the way, the chinese buffet didn't go too well for me...the lure of egg fried rice was too much....
Back on track now tho
B - fried egg with ham and cherry toms
L- salad with HM coleslaw and cheese
D - baked ratatouille type thing with cheese on top plus sausages.
Snack - babybel (BOGOF in sainsburys)0 -
Avstar, you'll find the breads on Mercy's recipe post - p. 162.
Don't blame you about the Chinese. I wouldn't have been able to resist either.0 -
as HC says look at mercys post. the only difference is the amount of flax and/or almond flour u use.. the original recipe is for all flax personally i am not that keen so reduced that to half and half flax to almond or a mix of oat/almond and flax.. basically play around til u find what u like best
funny the rice never lures me at all at the chinese and neither do the noodles now i must have been lowcarbing for so long it doesnt OCCUR to me to eat these things lol
