Ted - Thanks very much for the link to Dr Dhalqvists Blogg, after reading it I have decided that I need to get myself on this diet and have started from this morning.

I had previously done the Atkins diet a few years ago and was astounded at how much energy I had, I was 'buzzing' all the time, and looking for household chores to do to fill my time. My memory was good and I woke up feeling fresh.

Anyway, for some reason I stopped, I think the weight loss stopped and I got tired of all the meat etc..

The Dr Dhalqvists seems much easier to follow though and allows more leniency when it comes to fruit and veg type food, which is what I crave when on an Atkins type diet.

I have been exercising heavily recently, but sticking to a very high carb diet, and it's awful, I wake up after 12 hrs sleep and feel horrid, almost hungover, even though I don't drink. :( I know I have to do something, I just feel so rubbish all the time!

So, this morning I had scrambled eggs cooked in some butter. Lunch was a slice of beef and a slice of ham. Feeling okay so far.. :)

Wish me luck! & any hints and tips would be much appreciated!

    Hi G-G :)

Just to share my experiences - I started Dahlqvist's program recently too and I must say I've found it really easy to stick too. The first week or so I felt slightly weird, but I think this is something to do with the brain adjusting to burning fat for fuel instead of carbohydrates? I'm sure Ted will put me right on that;):D But after that, like you said, I have had so much more energy and I am sleeping so much better - and sleep was always a problem for me before. My skin looks better and people keep commenting on how well I look lol.

I keep some 10% fat Greek yoghurt and some slices of cheese and ham in the fridge at work in case I need a snack, but in general I feel the need to snack far less than before and I don't crave all the carby junk I used to, either.

As you say, the Dahlqvist program is easy to follow and less strigent than Atkins (although I've not tried Atkins) - I don't think I could manage without veggies. I imagine it is something that is quite easy to incorporate into life in the longer term...
Anyway good luck with it! :T It will be nice to have a support buddy!:D

    Thanks Sazzy! :)

I am going to really give it my best shot, and I know that it will take a few weeks to adjust so i'm already working that into my routine so that I don't get disheartened or worried about craving things like bread and sweets.

My biggest problem is chocolate, and fizzy drinks.. aswell as the high carb additions to every meal I have.

I def need a support buddy

One support buddy coming right up!:D

I can honestly say I am the world's number one carb addict, but I am surprised how little I have missed them!

The good news is that Dahlqvist allows us a small amount of 70% cocoa solids chocolate... just not sure if i'm able to trust myself with just eating a small amount. I'm not too great at judging quanitities... especially when it comes to chocolate:o :rotfl:

 yes, a small amount of chocolate.. I guess it's relative to what you are used to eating :o hehe! I think I will have a bar in the fridge, and then have 2 squares a day maybe and see how I go. If it's really dark chocolate then it's not too bad I think, I don't feel the need to scoff it like I do milk chocolate..

I'm not sure what to have for dinner yet. I've got some brocolli and cauliflower, so I need some meat really.. might pop to the shop or have a couple of sausages for today and get the chicken i've got in the freezer out for tomorrow.

I'm not too hungry yet either, just got cravings for things I know i'm not allowed..

Are we allowed strawberrys and cream? or blackberries etc? I thought I saw that but just wanted to double check.. :p

I think with sausages and other processed meats, she says try to make sure the carb content doesn't exceed 5g per 100g. I think because some contain an unhelpful amount of carby fillers?

and re fresh fruit - again I think this is in the 'small amounts' category - I guess depending on how fast weight loss needs to be.

I want to try her suggestion of cauliflower cooked in cream. Also, if you look back at some previous posts on this thread, there are some great recipe ideas, including one for a cauliflower pizza base!

I'm going to def try the cauliflower pizza base :) I usually make my own pizza bases anyway, so it shouldn't be too difficult.

I might have to pop to the shop for some cream later :D mmm yummy cream :p

I've got the chicken out of the freezer for tomorrow, so I may BBQ that to make it extra yummy

Not a major cheese fan though, although I do like it, but mainly on carb type foods like bread, chips, etc.. not one to just eat a chunk of cheese..

I will have to have a think about what I can eat and get an idea in my head about it.

We are allowed soup though, so how about I make my own soup.. that would be nice :)

I'm doing okay I think, although I just had a yoghurt and it says it has 20.5g carbs per 100g. 30.8 per pot! :undecided so I don't think I should have them, but I will have them one a day until they are gone. I don't think they will do too much damage hopefully.

I'm looking forward to having more energy
