    Hi all!

Didn't post yesterday as subdued by weekend of excess :D

    Yesterday
    B - ham, lumps of ham :j
    L - HM curry
D - cabbage wraps of ham and cheese and raw green beans
    Snack - Mascarpone choc dessert

Potty - Cutting out the alcohol is what's made the big difference for me. Apparently the liver deals with alcohol first so must wait til that's done before tackling carbs or fat. (simplified but about right I think)

This was highlighted for me as 2 days on the razz at weekend seems to have prevented any loss this week :o Into new work jeans though so not all bad :D

Tastes do change eating this way. Tried to drink schweppes Ruschian but could only taste chemicals and saccarin (sp?) so tipped it down the sink.

    Happy day to all!

Potty, are you eating enough? By Day 9 it's usual to be in the swing and have more energy. But maybe your long walk on Sunday was a bit of a shock to your body (I know it would be to mine :o) if you're not used to exercise.

Congrats on your weight loss, Gaye! :T:T:T I saw that programme last night too. Interesting about the Chinese guy converting excess calories to muscle. And all the volunteers had reverted back to their previous weights within about a fortnight without dieting!

Forgot to post my menu for yesterday:

    B: none
L: cheese, mushroom and onion omelette; salad and LC Caesar dressing
D: leftover moussaka from yesterday, loads of cabbage

Good morning all, thanks for all you words of welcome and support.

I guess this is the stage where my body is adjusting to burning fat, and its probably not very good at it, but hopefully practice will make perfect!

I have not purchased the Vitamin D3 tablets as yet, and I am looking to order some, do you think this will help (in the long term) to pick me up?

Yes. D3 will help but check out Ted's posts for the importance of using 'an effective amount' Sure he'll be along soon with good advice. I take 5000iu a day but may drop a little if we ever see the sun again on this benighted isle :D

Hi to the new peeps and well done to the peeps who have lost weight. :T

Shykins...good idea about the sig...will update mine soon.

Like Gaye above, I was a lot thinner before having kids. You could play tunes on my ribs at one time, lol. It didn't matter what I ate, I just stayed thin. Then 1st child made a huge difference for some reason, my body just changed and I only had to look at something to put weight on. By the 3rd, I was 3 stone heavier and years later, I'm heavier still. Bloody kids! They get you one way or another dont they? :D

Anyway, am in a bad mood today. No idea why, just woke up like that. (And I'm still just fat btw, not hormonal ;) .)

Have to go shopping soon as the cupboard is bare. Wish me luck! The mood I'm in I may have to get prised off the chocolate biscuit counter.
Herman - MP for all! :)
  • Good morning all. Hello newbies :hello:
HC, congratulations on hitting the 9 stone something!! I'm sooooo jealous!! I sneaked on the scales this morning too & I've put .8 of my lb lost last week back on!! Not sure how that happened but still feeling 'congested' as haven't managed to get the fibresure yet so I think it might be that?!
Last night I decided to have pork medallion & cauliflower/broc cheese with sauteed leeks for dinner by the way (didn't post it yesterday).
    Menu for today:
B - blues/rasps & cream (find this much more palatable 1st thing than cooked brekkie)
L - king prawn mayo salad (had this yesterday too)
D - hmmm, not very organised again - to be decided
Well, hopefully I'll get out today, sunnyish at the moment so might walk to the Co-op & the chemist ;) .
    Have a lovely day everyone.

This paper explains how vitamin D works best It may be difficult for people new to the topic to understand so I will try this analogy.

To get the Vmax enjoyment from a bath the water has to be the right level. too little water and some bits get cold.

To get the Vmax power of Vitamin D to function ideally your body needs a level above 50ng or 125nmol/l. That is when it has a store of D3, so each circulating 25(OH)D molecule has a matching stored D3 molecule available and the hormonal action of Vitamin D can work at maximum power.

If your bath has lost it's plug then in order to get the right depth of water you need to turn the tap on so more water comes in than flows out. Your body naturally uses around 3000~5000iu of Vitamin D daily. So to top up your bath (resevoir of D3) you need to be putting more D3 in than you use each day.

Between April and September if we lay naked in the sun for 30minutes around midday (without burning) our bodies will make around 10,000iu/daily, so topping up our bath for use in winter.

Between October and March at this latitude no UVB reaches the ground so no new vitamin D can be made, only, at most, 500iu/daily can be obtained from food (if you eat oily fish every day) so our 25(OH)D status drops you can see this plotted out here

You will see at this time of the year we all have our vitamin D bath about a third of the level that gives us the Vmax benefit. Even at the end of summer you will see we are mostly around half of the amount needed for the ideal Vmax benefit to operate.

You will see here what Dr Davis working in Wisconsin finds necessary.
The vast majority of women require 5000 units per day, males 6000 units per day to maintain a blood level in the desirable range. (I aim for 60-70 ng/ml. 150~175nmol/l)
This is the only UK source of effective strength D3 I know alternate 2~3 drops daily to average 5000iu/d.

This is the stuff I use but it must be taken with food, D3 is fat soluble and needs some fat around.

I get NO REWARD OR BENEFIT for mentioning either of those sources.

This is the stuff Dr Davis recommends If you haven't used IHERB before they are according to Consumerlabs the best USA online retailer. There are $5 introductory discount codes in the referrals board, which could possibly help reduce someone's next IHERB order a trifle.;)

Next time I order I may give give these a trial

Anyone the slightest bit worried about taking too much can sign up for a 25(OH)D test for £20 every six months here. That way you can be sure to keep your levels topped up the level associated with the lowest incidence of chronic disease.

Vitamin D does also increase the first phase of insulin secretion and will improve lipid profile. so will help weight loss. Because vitamin D3 is fat soluble it get's locked up in fat cells and is unavailable to circulate so everyone who is overweight has a lower level of 25(OH)D than ideal.

You also need to be aware that as your body uses 5000iu/daily your Vit d reserves can only build up if during the summer you also get regular non burning full body(or as near to as possible) sun exposure. It generally takes at least 90 days at 5000iu/daily to replenish stores, so be patient.

Ted, I really think I might give these a try. Are there no UK stockists?

ETA: just reread your bit about the UK. Ignore!

  • Many thanks Ted, I still need to read up a bit on the Vit D issues, but I have ordered some 5000 iu from iherb, and got my $5 dollars off with your code, so many thanks.

Working in an office does mean that sunlight is a very rare luxury! We have had one or two people off sick long term, with Seasonal Affective Dissorder, basically they are depressed because it is winter. Having said that it seems that a lack in Vitamin D could be a large factor in this.

Many thanks again, Im off to make myself a green tea.

I can't read, and I can't write, but that don't really matter, 'cos I come from the Isle of Wight and I can drive me tractor.
