Low Carb Diet (atkins)

I reckon it's the perfect solution to those desperate times!
Hot Chocolate
Serves 1
80ml double cream
160ml water
2 teaspoons Splenda (I used a bit more)
1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa (I used less cos I don't like it too chocolatey)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence (I have extract, rather than essence, so I used a bit less)
Place all ingredients in saucepan and heat, stirring, without boiling. I used a whisk to make sure there were no cocoa lumps.
It suggests topping it with whipped cream, but I felt that was going a bit far!
Can also add 1/2 teaspoon instant coffee granules, 1/2 teaspoon brandy essence and plonk a cinnamon stick in the mug to make Mocha Coffee.
EEEK! I've just noticed it says 8.9g net carbs, so maybe don't have this if you're on induction! :rolleyes:0 -
Animal Pharm nice blog today that provides further evidence to encourage wheat elimination and low carb eating.
Dr McCleary also has updated his blog with a couple of interesting posts. that will interest those who have invested in coconut oil (it's 60% MCT) as a part of their low carb diet.My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Badger, well done on 9lbs this year already!
Thank you but I really don't think it can be anywhere near accurate... last year I knew I was losing weight because I could feel the size difference, and fit into clothes that had previously been too small. But I haven't felt different at all this month and am still wearing the same clothes - I really think the change in scales has messed things up... after all I'm a size 12 now so I would expect 9lbs to really show!
Thanks for the slap Shykins... I've pigged out on coconut porridge and a protein muffin already this morning  But then I keep forgetting to eat lunch so hopefully it'll see me through today... stick to the green tea in betweenand just have a good dinner of leftovers tonight.
I'm at home again today, so working on the garden - since the chickens moved into a purpose-built coop, my outhouse is vacant again, so today it's give it a good clean-out and then kit it up as a garden shed... I picked up a broken deepfreeze from Freecycle yesterday to keep the chicken feed in, so that has to be brought downstairs...
Also planning for my new job - it's in the centre of the next city along, so no more driving (my old job's in an industrial estate)... options are train/walk (about 50 minutes) or buy a moped (about 30 minutes)! Either way, I hope I'll be getting out there and being more active, even if it's just nipping to the shops on my lunch break
On a different note, my course of antibiotics ends today and I've still got a proper chesty cough... really don't want to go through all the hassle of heading back to the Doctor's! I feel like a right whinger every time, and it's not funny nipping out of the office and spending 1hr10mins in a waiting roomMortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -

I lost a pound! Yay!Was that ok?I think you're right about the Atkins bars and the home made goodies btw so I'm going to try to stick to 'proper' (iykwim) foods and save the other things for when I'm feeling desperate. 'Cos I know it's gonna happen.0 -
HI Sazzy has gilly given up he's stopped wrighting on here , Is he having a break ?
Hi sue - :hello: I think it's just coz we found it quite difficult getting back on track after the new year, plus he's a bit poorly at the mo - I managed to give him that bug I had:rolleyes: plus a frustrating few days weight-wise - over the course of the weekend, we both managed to lose several pounds in weight then put it back on again, like from sunday to monday:rolleyes: But all that aside it feels like we're properly back in the groove now, so I'm sure he'll be back on here soon:) I'll give him a nudge:D
today:
b - usual flax bread etc
l - usual salad, meat etc lol
d - roast chicken or pork with leeks and/or celeriac prob
Am feeling knackered already and it's only monday lol!
Have a good day everyone
Much love,

Hi all,
2 reasons for this post. I) to use the icons:j :j (i hope it works!)
2) just found some sun-dried tomatoes on the shelf and currently have them soaking in boiling water. No info on packet, so are they okay? As Badger says I'm not doing this diet thing properly because I have no books or anything so I'm relying on you lot to help me out!;) Can't do induction. Much too restrictive for a veggie:rolleyes:
PS how do you use the icons at the bottom? Sorry for being such a !!!!!!!Vegetarian. Have cut out all high carb food. Not following any particular plan.Started 20/1/2009. Weight lost so far 29lbs. Target weight loss 38lb in total.0 -
Think you've answered your own question, Mum! The icons at the bottom mark your post - see your little pink smiley face at the top? :rotfl: If you don't choose one you just get this:Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0

Good afternoon ladies and gents,
I've been ploughing through this forum at lunchtimes for the past two weeks and a few hours at the weekend, and inspired by the likes of Ted and co, I started my diet last Monday, and have lost 4lb.
I am a rather portly chap, aged 30 years old and weighing in at 19st 11lb  . I was (and if given the opportunity still am), drinking in excess of 20 pints a week.
So I am looking upon this diet as being the opportunity to kick the beer into touch, and to start eating healthier. I do need to lose weight, and that will come naturally if I manage to keep off the carborific pints of Ringwood 49er and stick to a sensible diet.
I am following Dr Ds plan, as I feel its a lot easier to follow and no need to count carbs and calories. I have done my research and purchased my supplements, and I am looking forward to being healthier and lighter.
My goal is to reach 15st before my wedding in November; according to the BMI calculator I need to be at 13st 11 before I reach the upper limit of being healthy! We'll see how it pans out.
So many thanks for your support, even if you didnt realise you were giving it. I'll post my menus daily as well, Im no domestic god, so its pretty basic!
Yesterday
Brunch (got up late!): 2x Bacon 2xeggs sausage and a couple of cherry toms.Roast Gammon with carrot, cauli and broc.
S: a few brazil nuts
I went for a 4.5 mile walk yesterday, and took the brazils as something to keep us going.
Today
B: 2x bacon, 2x eggs sausage and 3 cherry toms
L: home made cauli, broc and stilton soupGot some pork chops and will cook yet more broc and cauli and top with chedder cheese. I also have some strawberries and cream if I am hungry later.
S: Baby bell, couple of chunks of 85% choc
Thanks for listening,
TTFNI can't read, and I can't write, but that don't really matter, 'cos I come from the Isle of Wight and I can drive me tractor.0 -
Welcome Potty! Cor, I really empathise with the Ringwood - but at 20 pints a week even just cutting that out will make a huge difference... I had a friend couple of years back who hit 30 and went "wuuuuh!", so he tried tee-totalism. A month later, I bumped into him at the pub (lime and soda, people!) and he looked fantastic, like a new man.
You'd be surprised how easy that BMI change is - took me just 10 months to go from "obese" to "healthy" and if I can do it anyone can
Good luck with it, and don't forget to ask for any motivational help! :wave:Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0
