Low Carb Diet (atkins)

I'm losing a similar amount, revylesley.
You REALLY need to look at the amounts you're eating. You should be primarily eating non starchy veg with protein on the side, not entire blocks of cheese or dozens of eggs in a sitting.
Are you taking any supplements? Eating mainly protein will *ahem* block you up. You need to be majoring on veg on any diet (even atkins).0 -

While a lot of people on the Active Low Carb Forum eat a huge number of eggs our old hens have virtually stopped laying and the new ones haven't started yet so my own egg consumption has never topped 2 daily. (but that's because I'm too mean to buy them) but when they start laying again I'll just eat what I fancy.
With regards Cheese it is fairly dense calorie wise and although I think you don't need to starve yourself or go hungry I also think you are making life hard for yourself if you take in too many calories. So while I did and still do really enjoy a full creamy brie or such I think I could overdo it so tend not to go mad.
I've been taking Magnesium Malate for a while now. I'm sure it is helpful (another anti inflammatory agent that is also good for brain function) but magnesium does have a laxative effect so maybe this is why I haven't had any problems in that direction. I also add a tablespoon of ground linseed to soak up the bacon fat/coconut oil from my breakfast plate and that also is a good source of fibre (soluble and insoluble) that keeps things moving. I also eat loads of green veg so there is always plenty of fibre. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

That's a top tip re chicken kievs, AB. And in fact, probably for a lot of things that would normally be coated in breadcrumbs, I would think? And stay away from the Fox's Crunch Creams - your doing really well:)
Gillette - the point I wanted to make earlier (before the need for lunch overtook me) was that maybe this low carb thing feels weird because we've been so brainwashed for so long about how low-fat diets are the answer, and so psychologically it's very difficult to go against that dogma, because it's so deep seated? Just my thoughts anyway...

All I know is.......I'm getting to eat the most wonderful french mayonaisse.Girls are gonna love the way I toss my hair. Boys are gonna hate the way I seem.

whoah do I feel like a naughty girl at school now
Yes the atkins in the early days was VERY restrictive on the veg intake okay it might not have been any but in intake it was little enough to be almost nil.The only fruit allowed was rhubarb and rhubarb without sugar is hmmm a very acquired taste. As for me being uninformed I bought the original Atkins book and read that from cover to cover before launching myself onto the induction period. So I wasnt quite as uninformed as you may think.
I think my original post must have been misunderstood because I do eat protein with non-starchy veg and I dont eat whole blocks of cheese at a sitting I was just giving a for instance and asking what portion size was best for optimum weight loss.I'm sorry if I've ruffled a few feather but I had no intention of decrying the Atkins version I was merely illustrating that for me at that time it was not suitable
Phew did I get lines or detention:rotfl: ?

I did the original Atkins (cough, cough, nearly 30 years ago) and my recollection was that it was very restrictive. I lasted a week and then grabbed a potato scone as I would have killed for something carbohydrate.
I would like to lose 5 stone too but am too scared to look at the scale so will just keep eating low carb and see if I can gradually get into smaller and smaller trousers and skirts.
I have copied the recipes for almond thins and oopsies and they should be a great help.
Am trying not to comfort eat as DD was supposed to hear by Monday morning if she was sucessful in her job interview and no word yet.
Must keep telling myself that stuffing rubbish carbs in my gob will not help her - having a thinner, healthier and happier Mum will!"This site is addictive!"

Elona I'm not even admitting how long ago it was and I lasted 8 horrendous days before admitting defeat.I've looked at the new version and it looks wonderful compared to the old one.I've only opted for Dr D's diet because it looks easier with no measuring or weighing.Plus the fact I am able to drink tea with milk.I have hit a snag though my two year old has dismantled my weigh scales this afternoon. So I will have to carry on regardless until I get some new ones and manage to weigh myself.Kids who'd have em:rolleyes:

Thanks for that ted, very interesting. So I guess the gist of that is, cholesterol improvements may be depend to some extent on a low-carb context.

Here is another take on THAT NEW LOW-CARB vs LOW-FAT STUDY
Pay attention to where Bowden talks of Low-carb dieters saw their C-Reactive Protein go down the most. C-Reactive protein is a very good measure of inflammation, something I think we need to be way more concerned with than cholesterol. Inflammation is a silent killer and a component of every degenerative disease from heart disease to obesity. Incidentally, C-Reactive Protein levels barely budged in the low-fat group. If only some people with Rheumatoid Arthritis could understand the potential for dietary changes to modify C-Reactive protein status they could possibly see a slower progression of their condition, but there's no telling some people.
