This might sound daft, but do you know how I finally got motivated? TV. There were two shows that did it:

    - Louise Redknapp slimming down to a size 4 (from an 8) to show how unhealthy the "size 0 fad" was. She was miserable, but she got down to a ridiculously skinny shape in a relatively short space of time - I figured that if she could do that, there's absolutely no reason why I couldn't lose a couple of dress sizes!

    - Annoying Channel 4 program with Gillian McKeith and another bird who was a 14-16 (same as me at the time) going around trying "fad slimming aids", such as extreme diets and detoxes, even laser-lipo. She didn't take any of them seriously, didn't stick to any of them and completely rubbished them all... yet she had to confess that she'd lost 10lbs! So again, I figured it's not quite as hard as it's made out to be...

Of course, I put myself on my own "extreme diet" before discovering low-carb, which was much harder to stick to, and it worked - as soon as I saw the inches dropping away, I was addicted and just had to keep going

HC, just look back and think about how much you've achieved - wouldn't it be amazing to do the same again???

I'm kinda glad to see some peeps have cheated a bit, not that I mean that nastily I hasten to add...it's just that yesterday and today have been hellish for me and I've been soooo close to eating 'stuff' that I've felt like a right old failure. I feel a bit better knowing that some of you are in the same boat with me iyswim.

I haven't actually eaten anything carby as such but I've had gallons of sugar free jelly diet coke and peanuts and I had 3, yes 3 chocolate Atkins bars for my lunch today. :o Although I've still been trying to make sure the stuff is low carb, I dread to think how many calories I've eaten. Why am I craving crap now?

  • Alias - which ones is it that you have had? If its the ones with polyols you might be in for an interesting evening. Its recommended that you dont have more than 15g of polyols a day.. the choc decadence bar has 16g in one bar! Im normally alright up to about 20g. Some of them say sugar alcohols - 0g (seems to be the brownie ones, and cookie dough ones - the american ones) in which case you might be ok.

Ive slipped up on this before.. boots chewy toffees are yummy.. but at 6g polyols each.. eating most of the packet didnt end well for me at all!

All - Seen as I'm the newbie around here, I was wondering, how long have you been doing atkins/low carb, how much have u lost? How much left to lose?

I did atkins a few years ago and it worked well for me then. I have dabbled back into it a couple of times for a couple of weeks to try and fit into dresses for things (naughty) but apart from that up until Dec 07 I ate terribly. I then did WW until about Sept last year, but I was just putting the same weight on and then losing it over and over. I had a spreadsheet, and I weighed the same in Sept as I did in June, as I did in April, with lower weights in between.. wasnt working at all.
Started Atkins again on 30th Dec, and doing alright I think.
Was 13st13 in Dec07, 12st13 when I started atkins dec30th and 12st3.5 as of this morning. Still have a long way to go, hoping to get to 9st7, or maybe 10st if I feel happy there. I am 5ft 5.

  • I normally have a cinammon atkins bar for breakfast, I cant manage savory at the time of morning my son gets me up. Also sometimes have one as a pick me up on the way home from the gym. I am trying not to have many though as they do give me a noisy tummy, and also cost a bloody fortune!

Shykin - Thats great - well done. Maintaining is the thing that scares the hell out of me.. I couldnt bear it to do all this then end up in the same place again a few years down the line. What do you have in the way of carbs now? Are you back eating things like bread and pasta? xx

    xx
