Sweetserendipity your menu sounds fine, tho the stewed bramely apple may be a problem as I might be wrong but cooking makes the sugar content higher? Might be talking horse-poo tho:rotfl:

Yes it does because the liquid (water) in the fruit boils away ;)

Surely that will only affect the sugar content/100g, not the overall amount of sugar that you'll eat.

yes, but think about what happens to apples when you cook them. A bramley can appear huge when it's whole. cook it and it becomes a couple of spoonfuls of mush. so you eat more because it 'doesn't look very much'.

Of course. I was just pointing out that the total sugar content of one apple will not increase because you cook it.

No but cooking an apple will increase it's glycemic index so it will raise your insulin higher and faster than a raw apple the same size.

The more processed a food is the higher it's glycemic index.

Tink's point that the more processed a food is the easier/faster it is consume more of it, is also a valid point. You wouldn't normally eat a whole dessert apple if it were the size of most Bramley's (you'd probably want to share it) but when baked with nuts and honey who can resist eating a whole one?

Even liquidising a raw fruit/veggie will speed up the digestive process and thus raise the glycemic index.

That's what I wanted to say, but didn't do very well!

    Hi all

I saw the second half of the half ton son prog, his mother wants a slap. The poor guy was fed till he almost burst.
Are there no social services? There seemed to be a lot of emotional blackmail in her treatment of him whether trying to get him to stop exercising or to start it. I can imagine it must have been hard to lose a child at 19 months but you can't keep another safe by feeding him until he's totally dependant.

The hardest thing I found was her wanting to clean him intimately like he was a baby not an adult. Though apart from the size of his head he was more 'baby shaped' by the time she allowed him to go to hospital.

She obviously couldn't see what we could but what about his family?

    Just don't get it.

Hello all, I thought since I came in asking for advice that you might like to know my experience.

I decided not to go with any of the diets as such but just to reduce my carbs. That’s what I did, I’ve basically been eating less of the heavy carbs kept up fat as in cheeses, bacon, sausage etc. I’ve eaten veg, celery, lettuce, grapes, nuts shop coleslaw. I’ve also has some chocolate and cake, had Sunday lunch of Beef and ale pie with veg and a small piece of victoria sponge.

I am also doing a little weight exercise.

Ideally I’d like to loose a stone which is about 10% of my body weight.

For someone weighing 63 kg who is 157 cm tall:
You have a Body Mass Index of 25.55 . This means that you fall into the overweight range.

I have lost a pound and since I’m not dieting hard I don’t expect to loose too much more but what I really want to tell you is this.
I have RA and have been very bad over the last couple of years and as a result became flabby which I hated, went from eight and a half stone to 10 stone because of pain and inflamation stopping me being my very active self.
Since doing what I have described though I feel more energetic, don’t feel so bloated and lethargic and I seem to be less inflamed. Strangely I also feel slimmer, maybe because hopefully I am starting to increase muscle again

Sorry it’s a bit of an essay and has probably bored all you serious dieters but it has given me a bit of a much needed lift so thanks for your advice.

Oh and I find all the information so fascinating too :D

ahem - how many cherry tomatoes pls - tsk tsk !!!

not wanting to teach anyone to suck eggs here or owt but did you check the label if that coleslaw was shop stuff ? most of us make our own so we can reduce the onion and carrot ( or even omit carrot altogether ) and its so luscious and creamy with proper mayo - not a patch on the shops imo :)

Hi Daisy - it was 2 cherry plum toms:rotfl:

Yes it was home-made coleslaw - chopped cabbage with hellmans mayo, it was the cheese with herbs that was from Aldi - prob didn't word my menu very well LOL!

My coleslaw improved when I realised I should be using white cabbage rather than savoy cabbage :o
