Well done everyone for being inspired to start afresh today:T
I'm on day 5 now and the caffeine withdrawal headache has gone altho I'm feeling abit under the weather with a cold/sore throat urgh!
todays menu
B - couple slices of nutbread substitute toasted
L - salad and chicken leg
D - not sure poss grilled fish and veg or tuna and salad
snacks - couple pieces of cheese
Just a quick query - what dressing do people have on their salads? I used to have honey and mustard dressing but thats out and I'm not a fan of plain salad.0 -
Avstar - we usually have either mayonnaise or a low carb caesar-style dressing on our salad. Hellman's I think is the lowest carb mayo but we prefer the taste of Sainsbury's own make French mayo which is almost as low I think. You could probably also have olive oil and a small amount of vinegar (but not balsamic of course) - but best check with shykins on that if you're doing Atkins proper. HTH.
And I must try your nutbread recipe:)
Hope you feel better soon.

Errors that we become obese fat
this is a very tidied up loose version of a google translation of the above Swedish newspaper article that Annika Dahlqvist's links to in her blog today.
Carbohydrates such as sugar, bread, pasta, chips and rice make us fat.
When we see people eating in the streets most of what we see is that people consuming are always, and almost exclusively grazing on carbohydrates.
Now the holidays are over and we have a guilty conscience because we have eaten too much good Xmas/New Year Party food you may be interested in a couple of books pulished last year that show that people who either get sick or fat should actually eat more fat.
USA's leading science journalist Gary Taube published last spring: "The Diet Delusion (Now available in Paperback in the UK)
Lunda Docenten Uffe Ravnskov: in Sweden published. Fett och kolesterol är hälsosamt." "Fat and cholesterol are healthy."
The books reveal further myths about the hazards of fat.Taube has reviewed 1700 scientific papers and shows how the decision to recommend low fat diets was based on a combination of bad science and political interference
A small number of scientists from prestigious universities, but financed by the food industry have adversely affected millions of people in a fatal way by getting them to believe that fat is dangerous.
Taubes in his book identifies how these scientists came to completely wrong conclusions and the errors they made that led to this mistake.
Part of the problem is that they work in an isolated world where their extreme specialization has become downright dangerous. They have only studied the medical articles, and no other sciences, and only the journals in their own specialty and from their own language area. It is this incestuous relationship that means they have over looked knowledge from other areas and have not learned from history.
This self selected group that come with ready wrapped and packaged opinions that support their friends and colleagues from the other highly prestiguous universities. They have become a select group of experts in an exclusive club that only believers like themselves are entitled to join.
Taubes states that fat, whether it is saturated or unsaturated is not the cause of cardiovascular disease .
Instead, it is carbohydrates such as sugar, bread, pasta and rice that are the important causes of these diseases and the key to obesity and weight gain.
The huge amounts of refined carbohydrates we consume today is one of the causes of many of our growing so-called endemic diseases including type-2 diabetes, Alzheimer's disease and even some cancers. Exercise is good for the heart, lungs, joints and muscles, but we must not think we can lose weight with extra exercise without this making us hungry.
The second book is really the only independent cholesterol researcher Associate Professor Uffe Ravnskov in Lund once again demonstrated the myths about fat and cholesterol.
Earlier, he has shown how cholesterol hypothesis once was born in the 1950s. American Ancel Keys produced biased research that excluded all the countries in his study among 22 that do not fit his preconcieved thoughts about the relationship between fat in the food and heart disease. When there were only 7 countries, he further distorted the research by adjusting their statistics to show that it must be fat that caused atherosclerosis and death.
In Ravnskovs book, he presents new information.
We learn that among many other things that the majority of stroke have eaten less saturated fat than otherwise healthy people.
The people with the highest consumption of dairy products had the lowest mortality from heart disease and those people refrained from saturated fat is equal vien damage as those who have been gluttons with pork, eggs and cream.
In addition older people with high cholesterol live longer than the old with low cholesterol levels.
Moreover occur only 5 percent of all deaths from heart attacks before age 65 and among those, half normal or low cholesterol.
These books show once again that fat doesn't make you either ill or fat.
It is the carbohydrates such as sugar, bread, pasta and rice that make us fat.
We should guess this is true by loooking in the streets to see how people are everywhere and always, and eating almost entirely only carbohydrates.Doughnuts, muffins, huge long baguettes, pizza and pasta {edit and Chips in the UK} and drinking sweet fizzy drinks in large quantities.
During an ice hockey match in any of Sweden's stadiums, it is not unusual for a family of four persons in each break to eat a bucket of popcorn and drink gallons of Coca-Cola.
It's not strange at all they just become fatter and fatter , But it is rather strange that it requires so much research to explain why.

I hope the author isn't too cross with my rather liberal translation. You can go back to the original article as see where I've tried to make it more comprehensible. I just wish there were more articles like this each day in our daily press. If there were we wouldn't be stuck with the current dogma that suits big business and ensures more work for health professionals. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Thanks Saz - I'm just low carbing Dr Dodahquailsegg style so I don't have to be too strict.
I was flicking back thru Dr Perricone's Wrinkle free diet which is low carb based on fish - he thinks extra virgin olive oil is one of the wonder foods so I'll try and incorporate that somehow.
Hi Ted - v interesting article again - going back to ones you've posted about vit D and illness, I'm going to be slightly controversial here but yonks ago when I was young and foolish I used to use sunbeds (just fake it now:D ) and whenever I felt a cold or sore throat coming on I would have a sunbed session and often that nipped it in the bud - don't know if it was just coincidence or mind over matter but I was convinced it worked. Do you think this could be a Vit D connection and I wasn't just imagining it?0 -
Ted why doe's our goverment put this out as there advert the new one on obesity in the uk makes me so cross it tell people to cut back on fat then shows all the fat people eating very high carb sugary foods .0

This paper shows how high vit d status generally prevents Upper Respiratory Tract infections
This article by Dr Cannell shows how you can (if you've got plenty of high strength D3 available) knock a cold/flu on the head with massive amounts.
A good full body session on a sunbed that has (or in your case HAD) higher UVB content, would create a massive flood of Vitamin D3 that would do much to help your body deal with the infection. It was living naked with pale skinned hairless bodies that gave us the evolutionary advantage to survive at this latitude before the invention of medicines. Our bodies still have the DNA that works best at 135~225nmol/l and getting our levels at least to the bottom of those numbers allows D3 to be stored and a surplus available to deal with infection. But the minimum needed in the UK is 5000iu/daily and maybe more in winter. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

This is part of what Annika had to say this morning
It is becoming a rising interest in the population, the relationship between diet and health.
People are beginning to understand that they can not rely on the "nutrition experts".
These experts live entirely in their own own world with only ties to the food and pharmaceutical industry - and all their friends are in the same position.
If there was anyone who questioned their business focus, that person would immediately become ostracized.
Media remains remarkably silent on the issue.
My comment, But considering the money they get from advertising it's not surprising. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Hi Avstar, I buy Tesco own mayonaise which is low, 1.4g carbs per 100mls:D
Today is going fairly well, kids have an inset day so no peace for me yet:p
B - scrambled egg and mushrooms (have always had this since starting atkins as I'm not a 'morning' person so have to have routine:o )
L - chicken tikka and salad wraps... they are lush (wraps were savoury pancakes made from cream, soft cream and eggs. I also use this recipe when I make Fajitas:D )
S - Burgers (and salad) in oopsies:D
I loved fast foods but rarely had it as I was very consious of the calories/fat/contents but I love the above recipes and I'm allowed themIf you think nobody cares whether you're alive or dead, try missing a couple of mortgage payments.

Afternoon
I made it back from MrS and playing in the park with the kids whilst the snow was still around.Still got a mountain of Christmas Choccies around but I will be a good girl
Shykins I dont eat brekkie either but have a good lunch.I had Bacon,Sausage and poached eggs today.I'm stuffed and will probably just have some cheese and ham for tea
To add my twopennorth worth into the great mayonnaise debate I prefer Hellmans as I shop mainly as Asda and while their own brand is cheaper than Hellmans its higher carb and tastes sweeter than Hellmans. So I buy Hellmans for eating with things where I can taste the mayo and the cheaper own brand for mixing in with things like tuna or eggs
