vik i went from OMG 19stone EEEKkkkkkkk to now around 10st7, size 26 to size 12,,,, its an incredible feeling

can i just say once again please dont get the atkins plan from that link its the business that runs atkins nutritional who are hyping their products and that is not what atkins is about

as u say saz this is for life i just dont go mad, it was more the oh what the heck its holiday eat everything attitude i am wary of, of course i eat stuff i shouldnt now but then i am at maintenance but i can honestly say when i started this journey i stuck to plan even on holiday... as for the starch blockers ok for occasional use but please dont anyone get inthe habit of using them,,, this is all about changing a mindset and yr way of eating for life so that dieting becomes a thing of the past (gawd am i getting all preachy here??)

hello kras and welcome to the thread... more accurate info on atkins here http://messageboards.ivillage.co.uk/iv-ukdfatkins... hope thats ok to post its not my site tho i am CL there

I urge everyone to take a look at the links that Ted-Hutchison has kindly given us they are amazing. The talks are given by well respected scientists from America, you don't need a PHD in science to get the message they give us either. You need a spare hour or two to watch them, but well worth it, you with have light bulb moments about how we got fat as a nation and how we are getting fatter as a result of being urged to eat processed carbs. Thanks Ted for posting these links, my favpourite is the Gary Taubes lecture. I understand now how you feel so strongly about this subject . I feel sad I did'nt have this info earlier, it should be shown in schools.

    Good [STRIKE]morning[/STRIKE] afternoon everyone:D

Well, I'm sat here with a toasted slice of my homemade flax bread topped with some ham and cheese:) - enjoying it, and also enjoying a rare, dust-free moment of peace and quiet without the builders lol

Must get on and make that coleslaw later today:)

Just wanted to ask the long-term lo-carbers here - did/do you find it useful to have a carb counting book to refer to? Y'know, one that lists the carb content of foods? Or did you find it wasn't necessary?

    Have a good day everyone!

    Love,
    Sazzy xx

awww believe me, I fully sympathise. me being the world's number crisp addict and someone who is used to making all their own bread and pasta:rolleyes: lol Honestly, my beloved Italian pasta machine must think I've done a runner - and then everytime i'm in the supermarket, there always seems to be 2-4-1 on kettle chips, etc!

But having said all that, it's amazing that even I have found my cravings for those things diminishing, and I never thought I'd say that! I guess it's because my insulin levels are now more under control so I crave less... give it a couple of weeks and see how u go:)

have to say this is the only diet that i dont have to deal with cravings

i love crisps too so to sort that out i cut small cubes of cheese and nuke them til they go all wafery looking, take them out and peel them off plate straight away (if u dont a gule situation will occur!!)... eat when cool, just like crisps

joanna s/frfee jelly is ok occasionally but the more times u eat sweet thigs the longer it will take to curb yr cravings to sweet things, also some people do find they stall with sweeteners,, having said that a lot of people do eat it with no problem (cant stand jelly myself lol)

gary taubes is great isnt he??... as usay makes u realise why we have all got fatter while more and more lowfat stuff is sold and consumed, if people only thought what crap are they adding to make fatty stuff lowfat??!!.... well one of the main things is sugar HELLO!!!!
