Low Carb Diet (atkins)

:hello:
Yesterday evening I think I died and went to heaven.
Had my first Indian since I started low-carbing in mid-Sept. As I've no idea of the ingredients (I did email them but got no reply) I didn't know whether to feel guilty or not - but, boy, I was in raptures. Luckily it was in front of the TV, rather than in a restaurant, as I was cramming it in as though I'd never tasted food before.
I had butter chicken, three poppadoms (:o) and the little pot of minted yoghurt that they threw in (which tasted suspiciously - and deliciously - sweet).
I'm not a slave to the Ketostix, but I do think they can be a useful indicator in a situation like this, when you don't quite know what you're eating. Stick was pink before dinner, two hours afterwards and this morning too. Scales were as expected this morning as well. So I presume I haven't done too much damage. But just to be on the safe side, I shall try to be extra good for a few days. Sausages and mustard for brunch, lamb chops with leeks in cream sauce for dinner today.
I wanted to buy some new jeans for OH in the M&S sale, as he's lost so much weight and gone from a 36" waist to probably a 32. But I was a bit late, and they had nothing in the styles he fancied other than 50" waist, 29" leg - which is quite an interesting shape.
Hope you hear some good news next week, Badger_Lady. You definitely deserve a break.
newish2this, good luck with your low-carbing. My advice, for what it's worth (), is to cook from scratch most of the time. If you want the occasional ready meal (which I do) I'd go for M&S or the top-end range at Waitrose. Not cheap, I know, but just compare the ingredients lists to those on other ready meals, and you'll see why I say that. Both have a good selection of low-carb dishes (mainly chicken) - e.g. M&S Chicken Fillets with Leek and Bacon: 3.2g carb for the whole pack.
Have lovely weekends, everyone. The sun is blazing in deepest Berkshire and it's beautiful - if a bit cold.0 -

The chicken is probably okay, but the poppadoms and yoghurt may have an effect in the next couple of days.
We have curry night tonight too - will buy the curry and make cauli rice to go with - yum yum :drool:0 -
I'd previously looked at packaged poppadoms in the supermarket - I think they were about 4g carb each. Restaurant ones are larger, admittedly.
The yoghurt was naughty, I know, but it just disappeared into my mouth before I could stop it. Just flew in, it did!
Who knows what's in the butter chicken - there could easily be flour and/or sugar. Still, it was yummy. Didn't fancy cauli rice. Wanted something to scooooooop the sauce up with. :j0 -

Thanks for this, very handy to know especially as I have both an M&S and Waitrose within 2 mile of where I live;) . I am also working a night shift tomorrow night so will make life easier if I can take something simple in:j
I was going to start this weekend but actually started on Thursday as I didn't see any point in putting it off once I had the appropriate food in.
I have tried making opsies (twice) but just can't seem to get them right:o . I just don't seem to be able to get my whites to stiffen:rolleyes:
I had beef with cauli, broc and cabbage Thurs night (covered with a cheese sause.. cream, cream cheese and small amount of grated cheese.... it was lush) and cottage pie last night but substituted the potatoe with mashed cauli.... that was lovely too.:D
Tonight, I'm going to attempt to make the cauliflower pizza;)If you think nobody cares whether you're alive or dead, try missing a couple of mortgage payments.
My way is Atkins0 -
oooh the cauli pizza is lovely...to get the eggs stiff u need to use a glass bowl and a metal whisk (well thats what i use and it works).. make sure there is NO yolk in the whites at all
i agree about only eating natural food u cooked yourself, anything else u eat always check the carb counts as most of the proceesed food has sugar in in some form or another
i count the poppadums as 4g as well so they arent as bad as having a Naan bread, actually the yoghurt isnt that bad cos i twouldnt have been sweetened
ravy well done on the 2lbs and hc even more welldones to your hub for doing so well!!!
ok well confession time, we cooked our chrimbo cake yesterday and well i HAD to try it didnt i? otherwise how would i know whether there was enought spice etc, then i had a vodka.... <hangs head inshame>
have a gret weekend everyone

The cauli pizza has never appealed, so I've never made it. Silly, really, because there are quite a few low-carb recipes that I've thought '????????' at, and yet they turn out utterly delicious. I've never made oopsies either. I must try them.
Shykins, thank you for reassuring me I wasn't too bad a girl last night with my curry. My OH is so incredibly supportive of my diet that he refused to have an Indian last night if I couldn't/wouldn't have one - and he's been so poorly that I wanted him to have a treat. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
Talking of ready meals, newish2this, something else to add - and which confirms what Shykins says: as well as a list of simple ingredients in the type of ready meal I mentioned (i.e. nothing you wouldn't have at home), I'm talking about products that are usually raw, and have the least amount done to them. You could easily take some chicken breast and add bacon, cheese, leeks or whatever to them, instead of paying £4 to have it done for you. But sometimes it's very nice to treat yourself. I cook from scratch for the family every night (excepting the Indian delivery last night) and if I'm doing them something that I can't have, I sometimes have an M&S ready meal. You can't do that for the whole family (unless you're Rockefeller) but for one it's not too bad.
And talking of ready meals again, DD just stuck a Tesco 'Lighter Options' (or something like that) moussaka in the microwave, since I don't do a family meal when OH is away working (sob!), and we all fend for ourselves. As she served it out I said, 'Darling, that looks like dog food.' She disagreed, but it did indeed end up inside the dogs, as she pronounced it 'disgusting' after a few mouthfuls (the dogs loved it). Confirmation of the advice to cook from scratch or spend a fortune on good-quality ready meals.
I'm rambling again. Yes, I have been at the wine - but I can't even blame that since I do it even when stone-cold sober.0 -

Shykins, you're allowed! You've lost all that weight and now you know exactly what you're doing. And how could you possibly serve it to your family without knowing that it was just right??
I went to Sainsbury's earlier and bought a top (I know - last of the big spenders). It's the same top I bought a couple of months ago but several sizes smaller!

HC sometimes i wonder if i have any idea what i am doing lol.... woohooo at getting smaller size, must be a nice top to buy again!!
try the pizza.. really honestly u dont know its cauli, even ds eats it and likes it and he dont like cauli
i am with u HC i cook from scratch 95% of the time, there are very few things i cook for the family that i cant have, they just add spuds or rice etc i have more veg and meat, i find it really easy and dont get it when people say its too difficult cos they cook for the family, i rarely do differnt for me
ugh dont even get me started on ready meals, they look like grey sludge and taste just as bad, your poor dog whats he done to get that crap
hmm now who is rambling and i aint even had a drink
