Low Carb Diet (atkins)

Mojisola, wow, you must be almost half the woman you were! How do you feel when you look in the mirror?
Thanks - but I've got to lose quite a bit more before I become half the woman I am! That's why I'm so grateful to Ted for his low-carb references because I wouldn't have lost what I have without this way of eating.0 -
Shykins, I'm not entirely convinced that it was my eating high-carb that made me overweight. I think it was the total calories. I can't be sure of that, of course. It's like the discussion I had with Tink not long ago.
I don't necessarily believe the stuff I read in books. I don't entirely believe in global warming, or God, until either are proved. (Shoot me now!) However I know this is not the place for such discussions. My DD is 7 and a half stone - and she is the same height as me. She eats lightly but high carb; she maintains or loses. How do we explain the Japanese or the Italians? They both eat high carb (albeit sugarless diets) yet have longevity.
I guess my layman conclusion is that low-carb is a great way to lose it, but to keep it off there are myriad ways.0 -
well whatever u do HC the key is dont go back to how u were eating before.. i know for me when i eat carbs i gain but we are of course all different and u will have to see what happens should u decide to start eating more carbs

hey you lot - india knight was on radio 2 this afternoon.
her new project? "The Thrift Book"

I'm sorry I'm such a filthy sceptic, but she is surely jumping on the credit-crunch bandwagon (and she's not the only one!).
Are we supposed to believe everything people write, without checking it out? I'm talking generally here, not getting at India specifically, and of course not the economic downturn generally.
Am I the only one who gets irritated when people accept what a 'published writer' says, without any professional corroboration? Please tell me no!
Not shooting the messenger, here.0 -
i thought that too, but apparently not
she was threatened with bankruptcy last year and had to raise a LOT of money to prevent it.
i was hoping she was on there to talk about the diet. i have actually enjoyed all of her other books0 -
Oh well, fair enough then.
Shykins, yes, you're absolutely right. However, I find it such a struggle to envisage myself eating this way long-term. But perhaps the longer I do it, the more it'll feel a WOE and not just a diet. It's certainly worked for you. :T
My posts last night came out a bit grumpy. Sorry about that. I was doing twelve things at once and didn't take enough care when phrasing them.
Or perhaps I am just grumpy at the moment. So much going on, I'm driving here, there and everywhere for DD, instead of working, and I'm very worried about OH's condition (his diabetes is not responding to the usual medication).
On the plus side, I weighed this morning - and I've officially lost the two stone I hoped to before Christmas.0 -
aww HC dont worry u didnt sound grumpy and anyways we all get grumpy at times.. u should see me when i am!!!!
as u get nearer maintenance u can add things in so it may seem less of a diet to u then.. oh and YAAAAAAYY well done on reaching your goal
on a side note a lot of drs in the US are advising diabetics to eat lowcarb, it maybe worth some investigation as possible help to yr OH
oh i have such a rant about vicars and telling kids santa isnt true etc etc but i best not put it here u will all think i am mad lol

I know, but the medical profession in this country (our surgery, anyway) won't entertain the idea at all. I've done a lot of reading since he was diagnosed, and I really wish he'd give low-carb a go. It seems to make perfect sense, and I know that huge numbers of diabetics eat this way - for many it's the only way of keeping their blood glucose under control. As someone on a diabetes forum said, 'As the doctors say, a high-carb diet keeps your blood sugar stable and consistent - but consistently high.'
One of the problems is that if you mention low-carb, the doctors immediately think 'Atkins'. But of course you don't need to go that far, unless you want to lose weight too. Just cutting down on bread, potatoes, rice and pasta would probably do it. But, understandably, OH is doing exactly what he's told by the docs - for the moment anyway.0 -
hi all
lost one and a half pounds this week so feeling smug :j
on the subject of India Knight I noticed on amazon she had also produced a book of a slightly saucier nature....(and no i dont mean sauce you eat!)
now on an aside.....i help at my local weightwatchers meeting (long story and no i dont follow their diet) anyway they have just launched a new diet plan...and they most definitely have NOT got the low carb message. i shall have to give up helping soon because I keep wanting to tell them somet different to my leader...heyho it makes for a night out!:rotfl:Credit Card debt £10247.17 1/1/20200
