Well I'm still on track and feeling good! Although I did just take a glug of my brother's beer a little while ago without thinking! Ooops! It was just a little glug and I then drank a glass of water so I'm hoping that my body hasn'#t noticed! LOL!
I'm getting to the stage where I'm not craving sweets as much now (again! It was so hard last time!) and for the last 2 days I've been handing out Turkish Delight and chocolates at work without even giving them a second glance! Go me! Luckily my colleagues are pretty understanding about my diet and don't ask me if I want biscuits or sweets and don't give me a hard time about what I do and don't eat. I don't think I could put up with having to defend myself all the time!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Ted I need your help sorting out an argument that I'm having with my OH.He has come home from work and said that one of his workmates lost loads of weight on low carbing after consulting a dietician. The dietician told him that frying food was slowing down weight loss if he started grilling all his food his weight loss would increase. Is this true?I thought the body needed the fat and it helped to increase satiety?

Depends what you're frying
If you fry something that is high in fat, and then don't burn that fat off through the day, it could stall your loss.
If you fry something quite low in fat, it will help increase fat intake0 -

While fat does contain a lot of calories it is more satisfying and you feel fuller sooner and last longer before you need to eat again.
Volek whose rigorous research has been published --found that overweight men and women on a low-carb diet who consumed 36 grams of saturated fat a day actually reduced their number of small dense LDL particles (the real "bad" guys) and reduced their triglycerides (by a whopping 51%). Many researchers consider triglycerides to be more of a risk factor for heart disease than cholesterol ever was.
“The message isn't that you should gorge on butter, bacon and cheese," says Volek. "It's that there's no scientific reason that natural foods containing saturated fat can't, or shouldn't, be part of a healthy diet."
Here we summarize recent data showing that, in fact, substitution of fat for carbohydrate generally improves cardiovascular risk factors. Removing the barrier of concern about dietary fat makes carbohydrate restriction a reasonable, if not the preferred method for treating type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

I just wanted to step in and say hi - and can I join in please!!
I have read most of this thread as I have been following the Atkins diet for just over 4 weeks - and needed some new ideas. I have lost 12.5lbs in 4 weeks - and I spent two weeks reading the book from cover to cover before I started - and I am so glad I did.
Can I ask for some advice for stepping into Ongoing Weight Loss - I just can't get my head around it - what sort of things can I start to introduce? I started with raspberries/blueberries last night and have had the odd dash of gravy on meat. Any other suggestions please?
Oh...and I've been having skimmed milk in my tea throughtout - is this a no-no?
ThanksDFW No. 344

We all have slightly different tolerances for different foods and what may indeed be a no no for some, others can get away with.My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Thanks Ted - I have been reading lots of your links which have been very useful.
I've just always bought skimmed milk for years (due to previous low-fat diets) and everyone in the family has got used to it.
So, it looks like I should be ok adding sausages for breakfast (getting very tired of eggs now!!). Have forgotten to drink lots of water the last few days - so have bought some of the sports type bottles so I can walk around with them.
Any suggestions for evening snack-type things please?DFW No. 344

I also got some roasted pumpkin/sunflower seeds from lidl's. As you have to shell these before you eat them they are very time consuming to eat so you don't get to eat that many.My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Thanks for that. I planned to have sausages this evening - but I've just looked at the ones we have in the freezer and they're 6g carb each. Glad I checked!0
