Hi Badger , well done loosing so much weight , why have you not weighed yourself yet ? I would be curious  .
    ;)

I am very curious I just don't have a set of scales! The february weigh-in cost me 40p on Cardiff Bay :rotfl:

BTW I should just add that, out of curiosity, I today tried on my old size 10 Levis.Perfect fit! At 5'7" I'm quite happy with that, although there are still some little lumps and bumps to smooth out.

  • In a previous post I pointed out how the agricultural revolution, which occurred between 10,000 - 12,000 years ago, brought an entirely new way of eating to humanity. First came cereal grains, then diary, vegetable oils, and refined sugar, and eventually modified fats, artificial flavors and colors, and feedlot-raised meat. In fact, over 70% of the calories the average Westerner consumes are from foods that did not even exist 500 generations ago.

While our diet has changed dramatically in the past 10 centuries, our genes are much more slow to adapt.

Geologic Time, Magnitudes, and the Paleo Diet
puts this idea into a clearer perspective.

The article ends by saying A diet based on the way humans ate for a couple million years will lead to optimimum health and reduce the risk of degenerative disease. and we see that in this research showing that
Colorectal and endometrial cancers are associated with eating a higher glycemic load diet

  • Just came upon this and I thought I'd share it here.

It's an article by Dr. Michael R. Eades explaining the metabolic advantage of low carbohydrate eating.

Some of the comments below are well worth reading as well.

Ted that is quite a difference!

You look great now you've lost the weight

Was reading your earlier link and was a little confused because all I've ever read on low carbing has never mentioned calorie counting so I always assumed there was no need for it but according to that article we should be calorie counting but low carbers lose weight on more calories due to the way the body metabolises the protein

Dont get me wrong I could have misread as I had the kids screaming in my ear whilst trying to read the article so feel free to correct me if I am

As has been pointed out there are many approaches to low carb eating.
The approach I follow does not require either carb or calorie counting. But lots of people, some with huge amounts of weight to lose, do find it helpful to limit both carbs and calories If you spend some time here you will soon see how seriously some people take it.

I couldn't be bothered with any of that and just followed what Dr D suggested. I found that was working for me and I lost 2.25lbs every week without effort and without starving myself.

I have lapsed somewhat since and had a few bottles of wine and some weekends away when it wasn't possible to feed myself so I have experimented with intermittent fasting to recover from those lapses. So to that extent I've cut calories occasionally to get back to a trace of ketones.

I found I've not been eating so much since I've gone low carb but I still have a large breakfast, plenty of salad at midday and a meat +2-3 veg evening meal.

just to say dr A didnt say calories didnt count he just said carbs count more, therefore when u are close to goal or stop losing u may have to look at your calories ... note the word may!!

so forget about calories for now and keep on losing waatching yr carbs

ted amazing difference!!!! well done .. and well done everyone else who has lost this week

  • Bah, I need a set of scales NOW! Too much reading about diets... my bodyshape has improved again this week, with a flatter tummy and no more "bulge" over the top of jeans. But I'm starting to get panicky - all along, my target was to be back to size 10 by October... that's really not long now, and I'm really still a 12. (I am chuffed with a 12 - I'm as slim now as I was at 17 - but a target's a target!)

So the green tea's coming out (seemed to accelerate weightloss last time), and I've restarted taking my "slim aid" pills, which I don't really believe in but hey, what's the harm? I might even do a bit of exercise this week, to jump-start things. I've got some promo work next weekend, which always seems to help (just 9 hours standing around smiling at strangers, I don't know why I always come away slimmer ).

What else can I do for the final stretch??? I know, no quick answers, just patience... :(
