Low Carb Diet (atkins)

Felt a bit sick yesterday so only ate one meal and had cups of tea instead.
Have just had a bacon omelette and have turkey mince in the fridge for tonight and a pointed cabbage.
Still have not weighed myself as think it would put me off.
Felt a bit down that my trousers were not getting much looser but really if some weight was going from my bust it was not likely to affect my trouser size!;)"This site is addictive!"

Tried the cottage pie with cauli topping last night and hubby was impressed but said it tasted of cauliConsidering it has cauli in thats hardly surprising
As for the gravy I have to admit to using bisto gravy granules and taking the extra carbs into account IYKWIM.Its quite rare we have gravy any way and it saves the pfaff of making two sets of gravy. As I'm still losing weight it cant be doing that much harm

goodmorning all i have read all atkins books that were ever printed and india and nerris book and got there diet book have also looked at drbloggs site and all are the same type of diet except for fruit (bananas are allways the baddies) melon is the one that seems to come out higher than i allways thought it seemed to me atkins favoured berries the best . All 3 diets work whats the problem combining them (its all low carb not no carb)I agree with h .c .0

Dr Mary Vernon explains, here in series of short video's, the role of insulin in the control of blood sugar levels. Well worth watching.

from what i have heard and read atkins has a more restrictive 14 day induction than the other plans but after that they are much of a muchness which is why we all get on here we dont really differ that much in our eating, as long as it works for u then tweak all u want, its when it stops working u will know u have taken a tweak too far lol
same here with the gravy, i rarely have it so i just have same as rest of the family when i do
by the way heads up tesco have the finest sausages on offer at £1.29 a pack, they are 4.2g for 2 sausages, guess what we have for dinner tonight

Does anyone know if you can have baby corn on Atkins induction - I really miss sweetcorn and wonder if baby corn is ok, in the same way that you can have mange tout but not peas.My name is Paula and I am a low carber

Can MSG Cause Obesity? I know this link is slightly off topic for a low carb thread but some of you may be tempted by a chinese take away and think a low carb choice is possible. Trouble is not only the starch and sugar in the sauces but the fact they use lots of MSG.
I was reading a Lancet paper on PMS earlier today and came across this high intake of complex carbohydrates benefit PMS, due to enhanced transport of the serotonin precursor tryptophan into the brain.
as Low carbers avoid simple carbohydrates complety and choose only the least starchy, lowest glycemic load choices from the Complex carb list I wondered if any of you ladies had noticed reduced PMS symptoms while eating low carb?
I know the subject of PMS is totally separate from Menopausal symptoms but as Dr McCleary suggests low carb ( such that you achieve a mild level of ketosis), is the way to deal with hot flashes, I am curious to know if in practice it also helps (no doubt through a totally different route) PMS symptoms. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Hi Ted. You raise an interesting point here. I recall going to my GP a good many years ago - must have been at least 12-15 years ago now - because I was having problems with PMS. She knew that I take an interest in health issues and so mentioned the research a colleague of hers was doing at the time, into the relationship between starch and PMS. She handed me a photocopied sheet of the diet her colleague was researching and I believe it was called something like, "The Three-Hourly Starch Diet".
As I recall it, the idea was that you broke your three larger daily meals into 6 smaller meals which you ate no longer than 3 hours apart. The main aim of this was to ensure you ate starchy foods little and often, thus avoiding swings in blood sugar, which in turn apparently causes swings in progesterone levels (the hormone responsible for most PMS symptoms). At least, that's my recollection of it....
Obviously at the time this regime was about regulating, rather than minimising intake of starch/carbs, but it seems to me the underlying theory - ie a link between blood sugar and hormone levels - is along the same lines?
Anyway, to answer your question lol - yes, on an anecdotal basis, I do think low-carbing helps me with reducing PMS symptoms.
