I am beginning to realise that part of my inability to lose weight at the moment is due to tiredness. It's not just the children who are exhausted by the end of term. I get home from work and just reach for whatever is available and needs no preparation, fortunately there isn't much because I don't have time to go shopping. But cereal just leaps into a bowl and thence into Granny's tummy. So a gain's on the way this week I think.
Did ride my bike to and from school though. Took me all of 4 minutes each way. Whoopy doo.
(Sorry, just feel moany tonight)
Ooh poor grannynise - There is nothing worse than that dreadful exhausted feeling all the time. I went through that for about a year before I retired and for about 6 months after. Losing weight has certainly helped and I feel much better now but looking back I can see that MY tiredness (I am NOT saying that yours is) was due to low level depression. Now that I don't have the stress of going to work anymore (no more 12 hours days and weeks of working with no days off and all the rest of it) I am getting less tired all the time!
I do still feel tired and will quite often have a nap in the afternoon for 30 minutes or so, but I can feel inside of me that my tiredness comes still carrying around an extra 12 stone (which will come off!) and not from the mental stress.
I took early retirement and my income dropped by roughly 75% HOWEVER thanks to all the fantastic information on this site it is amazing on how little you actually need to live on! Luckily our mortgage was already paid off so we didn't have that worry.
Goodness me I have been rambling on this morning havn't I? I suppose what I am trying to say granny is if you think your tiredness could stem from anything other than physical it might be worth visiting your GP for a chat.
I hope I didn't cause any offence!

Absolutely not Marion. In fact I'm tryingto find a way of cutting down my in-school time to do more work across the local authority which, although it wouldn't mean fewer days working, would be a great change to implement. So I probably am not depressed exactly but fed-up because the plans are moving too slowly.
KPC -- he visits all those posh, converted into hotel houses by saying - without a qualm -- that he's planning a major event and needs to tour the building to see the facilites. Not only do they let him, they ply him with coffee and cakes. But you'd be surprised how many huge houses are still in private hands ... he just asks to visit and they say yes. Good job he isn't casing the joint with a view to robbery. People are very trusting, and maybe he's got an honest face.0 -
Hi everyone, sorry ive not been around ive been poorly. and now im not gonna be around for the rest of this week because im going to ireland :S
i have however been thinking, can i come of the chart for a few weeks? im not getting anywhere and am getting rather dangerously obsessed with the numbers on the scales so i think a break is called for and i shall start afresh in august from whatever weight i happen to be then.0 -

Hello all!
Oh YoungBean I can so relate to what you're saying! I've been finding it virtually impossible to lose just a small amount of weight, and my instinct is always MUST TRY HARDER! You may need to experiment with different amounts of exercise vs calorie intake to get a balance that works for you, so patience is definitely a virtue
Don't forget to recognise all your other achievements, such as the swimming!!!There's a sure sign that your body is getting fitter and stronger, when you're doing things you haven't been able to do before.
Marion, I for one would love to hear more of your 'ramblings'!How long have you been retired now? You still seem to manage to do a bit of travelling despite the drop in income, so you must be making the money go a long way, which is great!
Purplecatlover, hope you have a great time in Ireland! Well done on recognising that taking a break is the best option for you at the momentWe'll look forward to you coming back when you're ready!
No exercise for me todayI mean it

Thank you Missy! I have been retired for almost 2 years now - seems incredible to me as the time has flown past. We do manage to do a lot of travelling:D - almost exclusively paid for with clubcard deals. I have clubcard plus which gives me double points on everything I buy, we do loads of recycling in the machines which give us extra points (we go out in the evenings and collect bottles and tins from the streets and local parks- the neighbourhood is cleaned and we get extra clubcard points, although my daughters are horrified by this!!:o )
I use loads of coupons when I am shopping so that saves a lot of money, anything I need doing around the house I barter for - for instance I needed the light fixture replaced in my kitchen and I made an arrangement with the woman next door whose manfriend is an electrician. He sorted out my kitchen light and I gave her my big fan light from my living room which she really loved but I didn't really like anyway! So for the price of a couple of cheap light fixtures from Lidl's I had 4 hours work from an electrition and a happy next door neighbour with a new light in her front room!
I used to fill my car with petrol to get to work at least every 5 days - now a tank lasts me a month! I have more time so I cook from scratch which is a lot cheaper and we have leftovers regularly (I like to call it recycled food:p )
I used to buy clothes all the time for work - in my size they were expensive! Now I rarely buy things as I had loads of stuff in my closets! Being so large almost everything I owned was elasticated and stretchy so most of it has managed to shrink with me - some of the trousers are getting a little long though:rotfl: .
We have cable and broadband at home but my daughters pay for that since it was them that wanted it in the first place! We don't go out for meals or movies etc (unless being treated by daughters), but it doesn't bother us because we do eat out when we are on our holidays!
Just general frugal living really, If its broken fix it and if its not broken use it, don't replace it!!
I'm sure there is loads more but cab't think of anything off hand!

clubcar points for recycling marion? do share! I use my clubcard plus to build up for hols too. I like the sound of your simple life.
Granny, I am rofling at mr granny's tactic. I like the trust element, i think it would be a sad world if people lost that.
ajax, she did manage to pinch at least some of the bits you are thinking about. Hence the squealing.0 -
I remember reading a survey thing that said just having a day job costs the average woman £4,000 a year - things like commuting costs, work clothes, food & drink at your desk, colleague lunches/gifts/drinks, other incidental expenses...
I'm sure the MSE types on here don't spend anything like that amount, but it's certainly something to consider for anyone thinking of early retirement0 -
Hi all. I got my bicycle at the weekend. Had to buy a new one in the end (not vey MSE) and they are not cheap especially as I HAD to get the computer thingy that measures you time and distance etc. All good. tried it out on Sunday and going for a proper ride tonight, I hope. Still keeping up with the running too - this duathlon is going to take me some training!
Been good this week so hopefully the crazy gain of last week will be eroded on the scale tomorrow.
Missy - well done for all the cycling and running you have done in the last week. I am just exhausted reading what you get up to! I wonder how you have time to write on here so much with all this activity! And sub 28 mins for a 5km is damn fast. It's my ultimate goal but i am still hovering around the 29 mins. Nevermind. (Did we ever hear why you became trademarked?)
Welldone Kymrob, Mollymop, retiredlady and everyone else who has posted losses. Hope you are doing ok Dellybelly and as someone else said, you are not drowning in potty-training hell!0
