Hello Leyla
I bought the RC GI Jeans Diet paperbook first and topped it up with magazines from Ebay. I later subscribed to the RC Magazine because I found it quite inspirational to see how others had done. I bought all of the back issues going - back to about 2006. Ebay is really good for getting the RC books and magazines. (You may need to bide your time until others are not bidding - otherwise the price can go quite high)
The magazines are great because of the recipe ideas, some are really basic ideas and others are a bit more technical. OH loves the magazines arriving, he has a rummage through and picks out the new recipes that he fancies - cheeky boy.
I also keep a 'diet and fitness' journal, even though I have reached my target this really helps to keep me on track. Again, I usually buy these from Ebay (£5.99 + P&P from RC website, my last one cost £ ish off Ebay).
Every day I log my breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, treat, milk, alcohol, tick off 5 glasses of water, 5 fruit and veg, and whether or not I have done any exercise (usually not)
The best thing about the RC Diet is that you can use the meal ideas for everyone else in the family. The only difference is that the other monkeys add butter to the jacket potatoes, cheese to their chilli/spag bol/pasta, butter on their bread etc.
I do now add a little cheese and butter to my meals, but keep a close eye on my total calories - I don't want to slip back.
I had a problem with my knees too when I was heavier - that has totally gone now. :j
Hope I've covered everything, feel free to ask any other questions.

leyla-aurelia wrote: »BB how do you find slimming world? Does it work with cooking from scratch, and are the meals/menu's expensive? I tried WW a couple of years ago but the leader was so awful and condescending that I quit after a couple of classes, and swore off clubs thereafter. But there's a SW class nearby and I've ummed and aahed over joining for some time (what I spend on junk would easily cover the fees lol).

Hi Layla -I cook from scratch too and am having to count every penny, so yes SW can be done this way. It took a bit of time to work out new meals, or varients on favourites but as an eating plan I can't praise it enough - totally works for me and I've lost 2 stone. I went to classes for the first 6 months and although I too found them fairly ghastly and boring, I made the effort to talk to peole every week, got to know some nice people so that upped my motivation with the weigh in. After 6 months when I was no longer able to drive for a while, I couldn't go and found the support on here and my knowledge of SW was enough and I never returned.
If you fancied SW i really would encourage you to go to a few classes so you got to understand the plan. IT seems complicated at first but after a month you get the hang of it and now it is second nature to me. I eat very healthily on it and I love it's flexibility - you can eat more meat or carbs depending on your personal preference, though no food groups are cut out. I can not tolerate deprivation or going hungry and I certainly don't on this plan. My OH has lost 1.5 st since asking to join me (at home, no classes) in May and is maintaining that loss well.

bbI try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
thanks again for the replied folks.
now that i come to think of it, it's probably not just the chocolate BUT if I cut out the chocolate it would make a huge difference...
Anyway, a typical day (at work) would be:
7.30am - breakfast of Special K with semi-skimmed milk
10.30am - 2 x choc bars + Coke Zero
12.30pm - lunch. Now, sometimes I can be 'good' and just have a wholemeal roll with some pastrami ham BUT if I am lazy I'll get chips from the canteen
3.00pm - 2 x choc bars again
6.00pm - dinner at home. I am totally in control of my meals, I buy for myself so no excuse really. If I am being lazy it's a bloke meal - pizza and garlic bread probably. If I am being good, I love having stuff like fish and veg (carrots and brocolli being my favourite).
I don't often eat fruit apart from the occasional banana. Once or twice a month I'll have a smoothie.
I can't stand the texture of most fruits, however, I love the taste of most!
If I am perfectly honest, if I am 'told' to eat something ie by means of a class or a comprehensive diet guideline then I'll stick to it.
I guess I am like most blokes - need guided to something!!!
Do any of you have menus that are sustainable and tasty?0 -
Hi FG
Taking a quick look at your typical day, I have got some suggestions.
Special K is not particularly 'filling', if you swap it out for something like porridge you will feel fuller for longer. (I love porridge - I eat it anytime, with milk or water)
It's a pity you don't like the texture of fruit, because instead of those choccie bars as your am and pm snacks, a piece of fruit would leave you feeling satisfied without encouraging your sugar/choc cravings.
Could you pack up your lunch the night before, then you wouldn't have an excuse in the morning not to take it. Or do you have facilities at work to warm up a tin of soup, jacket potato with beans, pot of couscous/chow mein (Tesco do a light choices one that you just add hot water to) - Heinz Big Soups are surprisingly low fat/low cal.
Use frozen veg for speedy healthy vegetables, rice/jacket potatoes/pasta/noodles for quick carbs - what out for portion sizes. Grill or bake fish or lean meat for protein. - Just as quick as pizza and garlic bread and probably 1/4 of the calories.
I like salmon steak with a thin layer of wholegrain mustard baked for 20mins - very tasty. Great with noodles and soy sauce, plus veg.
Tonight we're having roast chicken, jacket potatoes and veg - no more than 400 calories.
Tomorrow I'll use the left over chicken to make chicken curry using the 6p per tin curry sauce from Tesco - again surprisingly low calorie - dead quick. With basmati rice and veg.
The Rosemary Conley diet books (and magazines) have meal plans in them, in a way you are being told exactly what to eat - if you follow them rigidly.
The RC website does have some recipes http://www.rosemaryconley.com/apps/content/page.asp?itemID=1026

Thanks FFM and BB, both look great, now I just need to decide
. I've also just seen that there are RC slimming/exercise clubs near me on 3 evenings a week, close enough to walk/cycle there, and one of them is salsa, something I've always fancied trying, same price as SW classes too, so really good value:T :T found a 'free membership' voucher online too:D .
Oh decisions--might pop along for a quick look-see one evening, once I've had a look at some recipes to see which (RC or SW) will fit with family likes/dislikes best. I know that I won't have much time in the kitchen once I'm working again, lol.
FG, I don't like fruit much either--love veggies and salad but often too lazy/tired to prepare them. I get round it by eating berries, which I love, in smoothies, ( made with yoghurt, juice, and a banana). I buy frozen berries as they're not as ridiculously expensive as fresh ones, and of course they're packed with nutrients and fairly low calorie. I've also often taken a salad to work, or a plastic tub of yoghurt topped with frozen berries (they defrost by lunch/snacktime), to bulk out my meals, and stop hunger pangs.0 -
Hi all
What a lovely weekend, I hope everyone is enjoying some sunshine. I've been making the most of it - went for a walk along the canal yesterday, and today got the bike out, got rid of the cobwebs and went cycling along the river. Feeling very virtuous now - let's hope it has a good effect on the scales on Tuesday!
FG - welcome to the thread. As someone else said, you've had your lightbulb moment, which is the first step to doing something about your weight. I follow Slimming World too, although I've also done Rosemary Conley, Weightwatchers and calorie counting. I like SW because there's loads of 'free' food, so I don't get to a point in the day when I've run out of points or calories and my only options are carrots or lettuce! I also consider myself to be a chocoholic - a little chocolate only makes me want more, so I don't eat any. I found giving up chocolate quite easy after the first two weeks, that's how long it took before the cravings stopped.
Delly - you're going through a very stressful time in your life, it's not surprising if you're comfort eating, so don't be too hard on yourself. It's still early days, I hope things start to improve for you soon.
Leyla - my theory about slimming classes is that it's the thought of the weekly weigh in that focuses the mind, however it is possible to lose weight by going it alone - most people here are doing just that. If you decide not to join a class, set yourself a regular weekly weigh in day, and we'll be the class members who praise or encourage you each week.
Anyway enough gassing - have a good week everybody.

Tough day today. First wedding anniversary since the split
Spent the day with friends but I think it just allowed me to remember the wedding and honeymoon.
THe impact of what's happend is finally hitting home. Whatever he's done doesnt matter - its' the fact that he doesn't love me enough is the real issue and it's heartbreaking, devastating.......

Thanks Lois and everyone else.
It's turned out to be a real nighmare of a day for me. Turned totally stormy after I'd originally posted.
Dietwise hasn't been too bad. I was at a friend's house for dinner today and ate loads but it was all totally healthy. - One thing about your marriage breaking up, you never know what's going to happen from day to day, sometimes I even forget to eat.Goal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.0 -
