Leyla - I had a hernia just above my stomach, nothing too drastic thankfully. I'd had it for years but it only became really apparent what it was after I'd lost the weight! :rotfl:

Hello [soon to be formerly known as]Fatgit what an amazing first post! You have listed so many fantastic reasons as to why you want to lose weight, but then you've said "mentally I don't know if I am 100% committed" (and I really do admire your honesty there) - so my advice would be to start there and FIND that commitment. The first hurdle is simply getting started, and it may be that once you've done that, the rest will start falling into place!

I'm a goal-orientated person so what works for me is setting lots of objectives and then really going for it! Not everyone is like that, I know. How do you get motivated for the other things in your life, or how do you go about planning a work project? Can you apply the same principles to your weight loss?

With the chocolate, how about listing as many options as you can think of, for example 1. Cut it out altogether for a while, 2. Eat smaller bars, 3. Eat fewer bars, 4. Have them just as a treat/reward, 5. Do enough exercise to 'cancel out' the chocolate calories... and so on... then you could experiment perhaps for a month at a time and if one thing doesn't work, try one of the others? And most of all GOOD LUCK with your weight loss journey!!!

FFM - belated congrats on those 2 promotions! I didn't know about those before :D

Hi Lois, the weather was beautiful wasn't it! More like that please :p Have a good week yourself.

Good to 'see' you Bails, hope the course goes well! Would love an update on how things are going with the gym etc? If you get chance :D

Watcha Suggs, glad to hear you had a good weekend (and sounds like you can claim half a win from the rugby at least!) Make sure you enjoy those last 3 games to the max, win or lose!

Interesting question Vix! No, it's a long time since I've felt "really fat" - it's perhaps more to do with how amazing I feel when I'm at my happy/athletic weight! Also as part of my maintaining I know I will gain (sometimes unexpectedly), so I'm always anxious to leave a bit of leeway for those gains. I'd also be interested to hear what the other maintainers would say to the same question...? (And don't forget to post later with how much work you've done on your dissertation ;))

Got to dash now, sorry for not catching up with everything and everyone x
  • Okay watch out folks the Dragon is back and kicking! (well metaphorically speaking! if I tried to kick in real life I would fall over :rotfl:), I am fed up of being a lard younowhat! and so I am back - all cheese is gone out of the house (apart from a tub of Sainsbugs low fat stuff), good healthy soups on the menu for lunches - tracking again on Calorie Count (if I eat too little I put weight on! lots of weight ).

There are 13 weeks until Yule/Christmas/Hannukah/whatever! and I want to be a MINIMUM of 14 pounds lighter by then! So Jkt spuds and Quorn every night it is then :D:D:D, with any luck I can start (er hem!) exercising again this week :D, and even better the stress over Dr Dragon may be nearly over - so kicking tail folks - no more Mz Nice Dragon here :p

  • Hi all!
Thanks for all the info everyone, lots to think about. I'm leaning towards RC because there's a salsa exercise session on one evening, and it's at 7.30--a time I could easily manage even once I'm working again. I've always fancied trying salsa, and at £5.35 within cycling distance, it's cheaper than the £5 +petrol I'd pay to go to the nearest 'proper' salsa class. The weight loss support will be a free bonus, plus I've heard that RC classes are subsidised by the NHS in some areas and I'm seeing the GP tomorrow to talk about my weight, so who knows--might be even cheaper, very mse! I also haven't managed to make many social contacts since moving here...ahem...3 years ago--despite opportunities, so it will be nice to see some people too (in my defence I've been mega-mega busy till recently).

I figure I'll try it for 6 weeks then move on to something else if unsuccessful.

Victory, glad your knees are a bit better, I think I damaged mine cycling too fast uphill--soo impatient, and now I'm scared to cycle much cos the pain flares up after a couple of miles of gentle cycling. I'm sure the extra 4-5 stone doesn't help!

Vix chinese and maccyD's :naughty:, I hope you thoroughly enjoyed them:D Dissertations are just a slog till you get going (or just have a week left, lol)

Thanks Missy, a hernia...ooh poor you, they're not serious, but not nice either. Glad it's sorted now! Well done on the weight loss too.

Hi Dragon--I'm dodging your kicks as we speak--oww, nice to meet yer--I think:p

Raphael, WELL DONE!!! From me too.

Well done everyone else for trying/losing/sts, and thanks for the support!

Have a good day, Leyla xx
  • Hello everyone:beer:, reporting a STS this week. I had been on track pretty good all week untill Saturday night when my OH offered me a glass of wine. I do not know why I said yes because normally I don't drink (unless I am on holiday), but the one glass turned into several and then a whole packet of biscuits joined the party:o:rolleyes::eek:!

So I guess I was lucky really to have stayed the same!:D

About a month ago I bought a pressure cooker from Lakelands. It is the only one they do and it is the 3L Prestige. I found in very easy to use but found it was way too small for family cooking. After reading on other threads about how good Lakelands are about returns I rang them and explained the problem. They offered an immediate refund and will send someone to collect on Wednesday for free! I am really impressed and will certainly be shopping with them again! :T:T

    Love to all

missy: i seeeee. Do you reckon as you get older you'd like to put a bit more weight on?
p.s ive done 371 words now. ha little and often!

Oh, theres me with my chinese and that, but i have a hen night coming up. Cant wait to break my hen night virginity with the girls at work! Im mega excited. Trouble is they want me in leggins, now we all know how unnatractive they are, but even more so when you dont wear anyhing over the top of them, apart from knickers. So i might try and work out a bit more untill it comes because i'll be the bloater cos the rest are all size 8/10, where fat legs dont even enter their vocab! I need someone to tell me not to eat, this is my problem...............

right off i go to add to that word count. 500 words would be a good way to finish off an un productive day.

I am really pleased to report that I beat my time on the 5km this lunchtime - 28 mins 23 secs. It always feels like it is going to be even faster but I wonder if I will ever be under the 28 minutes mark. I really pushed to do it today. That is my third 5km run since last Sunday's event so I am pleased I am sticking to the regime.
