  • Welcome aboard FG (sorry I am not going to call you FatGit because in a few weeks it will NOT be true!!)

I was also in the armed forces and was invalided out after a road accident and I am still trying to lose the 14 stone I piled on in a year , I have lost a small amount but one problem I have is that I cannot exercise - also with me it is not chocolate but cheese! I am following Rosemary Conley's low fat plan but keep stopping eating and piling weight on , been a fair amount of stress in the Dragon household since June and that has not helped me at all - so I need a diet buddy :rotfl:, basically one to boot camp me into losing the weight :D

ok happy to be a diet buddy dragon

    what plans does everyone follow?

i don't fancy paying for one as cash is tight as it is!!! (another reason why I don't want to go to classes like WeightWatchers etc).

In my case Rosemary Conley Hip and Thigh (or as Dr Dragon calls it Bum and Tum!!)

Tell me about it! I have been thinking about the RC classes but only after Dr Dragon is working again and we have some spare cash! At the moment we save up for a once a week trip to the pub :rotfl:

I go for a lower fat alternative! Something like Laughing Cow light or light Philly on Ryvita, it isn't quite the same as a huge block of Danish Blue but not too bad!

A friend of mine who is a complete chocaholic buys low cal choc mousse to get the chocolate hit, those and Options hot choc drinks.

  • Hi FG - you are very welcome to this forum: I suggest you read the first post as it has links to Suggs story and pics of his amazing weight loss. Sounds like you've had a light bulb moment with regard to your health and this is fantastic:T . You so don't want to get diabetes, as one of our regulars Victory will be telling you.
I feel unable to help re the choc issue, but i know plenty of regular posters will, as they pop in over the next day or so.
I personally follow the slimming world plan becasue I can eat plenty of food and still loose, but although you don't need to got to class, it can be a good idea to start off there. However, understanding about the money (and I sympathise re the female bias of the class) I'd say it's about finding something that suits your lifes style. People on here are doing this in all sorts o ways, from portion control/exercise and just plain 'healthy eating'.
You need to eat good tasty food and enough of it - no depriving yourself bigtime, as it is not sustainble. Upping exercise at the same time can only help.
Keep posting here regularly and join in - it does so help with ideas, and getting through bad days. You sound like you have excellent communication skills, so I'm sure trimming down a bit will soon see the ladies flooding in:D . Another excellent motivating factor.
Do you cook for yourself and of so, what do you tend to eat at the monent at meals?
One quick thought - I have heard/read several times about hypnotism being excellent for cracking chocolate 'addiction'. I know money is short, but this sounds like it needs urgent attention.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
  • hi all

    Delly
sorry to hear things are so hard at the moment , thinking of u as we all are.

    FG
OMG!!! its like listening to myself 8 yrs ago (apart from the forces bit) i didnt do anything about it then and have only realised how selfish i was to my family but mostly to myself i was 25stone back then and well as i said 8 yrs passed with me sort of lalalalalala with my fingers in my ears to the world even though i wasnt happy.
Last november i started cutting down and forcing myself to move just on my own as i couldnt walk further than the kitchen without being in severve pain , i never left the house because i felt like a freak , things were ok for a while but i couldnt be weighed as i didnt think anywhere had scales big enough so things started to slide again although i had made great progress in that time i was going out to shops etc and make a meal without collasping.
After a heart to heart with my family and seeing my mam , dad and sister crying over me plus seeing a pic of myself when i was 13 stone and realising i didnt feel any different inside then as now because i thought the fat and me had become one and the same and i thought i was a horrible person because i let my self get this way ,i finally realised that i'm a niceperson and i do love who i am and so i deserve to be happy and well i bit the bullet and on the 11th of june i joined ww (mostly so i could be weighhed) i weighed in at 36st 5lb (shocking i know) i have lost 2 stone since starting feeling much better about myself and i know its hard especially if u comfort eat like i do but if theres one person out there that reads this and does something about it now rather then later like i should have done then its been worth my aching fingers lol
i have been single for a long time and i just want to feel wanted , that a man out there finds me attractive physically but mostly i want to strut my stuff feeling good about the way i look and if that is the only thing i acheive in this life well by god i am gonna do it well.

    good luck to u all

  • BB how do you find slimming world? Does it work with cooking from scratch, and are the meals/menu's expensive? I tried WW a couple of years ago but the leader was so awful and condescending that I quit after a couple of classes, and swore off clubs thereafter. But there's a SW class nearby and I've ummed and aahed over joining for some time (what I spend on junk would easily cover the fees lol).

Lainie a 2 stone loss is fab! without being able to exercise too--wow!! I'm glad you're feeling better about yourself though, awful that we place so much value on 'size', when it should be about how we are as people and towards others! Have you used any particular plan, or just healthy eating, and avoiding unhealthy stuff?
  • Welcome FG :hello:

I don't have an amazing story like many of the others on here, but your story still rings true for part of my journey.

I am a 'middle aged' lady, and like you could not bring myself to go to weight loss classes. I have finished my weight loss, which has totalled 3 1/2 stone, I followed the Rosemary Conley GI Hip and Thigh diet, and unlike Dragon I could have exercised but blamed it on not having the time. So, it can be done without the exercise, but if you can exercise it is quicker and your body tones up more effectively. I do now enjoy going out on my bike (when I can find the time - using it to get to work helps).

Chocolate was definitely my downfall - along with portion sizes. I had to totally give up chocolate - even though there may be studies saying it is not addictive, in my case I think it is and the only way not to binge on it is not to have any. We rarely have chocolate in the house now, because I find it hard to resist. This does cause a bit of moaning from time to time by Mr Monkey and the Little Monkeys - but sorry, chaps, it makes it hard for me.

What is your situation, can you choose what is in the house and what you cook? Or, do you have to find the will power to avoid treats that others have brought in.

If you are in control of what you have in the house and what you take to work it will make it easier to eat the right things.

When I was larger I felt I was overlooked at work - it probably didn't help that I felt frumpy and middle aged. Now I have slimmed down and wear a fitted suit to work, I feel more confident and have had 2 promotions in 1 year. I think it is partly down to my improved confidence and also down to how 'larger' people are viewed (and all the preconceived ideas).

Stick with us, join the monthly challenge - that will give you something to aim for, and I wish you well.

Looking forward to seeing some great losses.

  • FFM did you use any special resources for the RC diet? Sorry for all the questions but I really am desperate, even though I dont have much to lose compared to many others on here (about 4 stone). I'm still worried sick about my health, have sore knees if I try to cycle or run, get a sore back etc.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who isn't keen on classes too, I'm sure they're fab...it's just...(though I think I'd try anything at the moment, lol).
