Thanks for asking FFM :) It is a lot more comfortable, but also more swollen  Guessing this is normal while it heals but I'll keep an eye on it (hey maybe that'll be worth a 100g weight loss when it eventually subsides!). The remaining surgical strips can come off on Monday which might make my eyes water a bit :rotfl:

Glad to hear you're back on the saddle! How are you feeling about your maintaining at the moment? Are things getting easier?

missy, my doctor told me my wound would swell up, so you're right it probably is normal - but based on the location of yours is well worth keeping an eye on. Good luck for the removal of the surgical strips.

I've given up worrying about the 'maintaining', I was becoming paranoid that my BMI was too low and that was making me try to eat more whilst not going back to my old habits.

What I am trying now is to watch/count my calories whilst eating what I want/need (without 'binging'), so if I hit 2000 calories by the evening, I only allow myself my nighttime porridge which will see me through to the morning. Evening munching in front of the TV was always my downfall.

The way I see it, is that I am not going to disappear, my weight/BMI might be a little low but who knows - maybe that is right for me. I eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, I have a snack mid morning, mid afternoon and late evening. I eat the same meals as the rest of the family, but don't binge on sweets/chocs/cakes/biscuits.

It's a little like my thyroid activity, the doctor monitors it because it is low (runs in the family) - but maybe that is my natural level.

That's how I'm trying to 'think' at the moment - I will see how it goes. Thanks for the help/support you give me every so often - it is appreciated.:D

  • Hi - what a cutey Tagz!
Raph - what lovely news - I wish you much happiness and joy!!
FFM - your post about the stitches made me smile - about 3 years ago I had a gynae op with keyhole so had dissolvable stitches in my tummy. My nephew George who was 8 at the time was a veteran of surgery as he has Hydrocephalus, and had had a summer of about 8 ops in his brain to try and get his shunt right, had a look at my stitches (in a goulish way that kids do) and said 'they look like those dissolvable stitches that NEVER dissolve!!' - out of the mouths of babes......
For those who have just had surgery, arnica 30c is really good to help with post op bruising/swelling etc. Just take 1 tab 3 times a day for 3-5 days. It really gets things moving on the bruising front.
Welcome to our newbies - this is a great group who offer support to everyone.

NO EXCUSES - THIS YEAR IT'S PERSONAL..........
  • Lesley, that did make me smile, why is it that kids (maybe boys more than girls) love the ghoulish side of operations. My DS has been fascinated by my wound, bruising, stitches, scar, and now stitches again (in that order as they occured) - he's always asking to have a look.

The day after the op he kept asking me to show his friends - I think there was some kind of 'street cred' available having a mother whose arm looked liked she'd been in some kind of slasher movie. It was usually met by a big smile and a comment such as 'cool', 'gross', 'wow' - you get the picture.

He keeps asking 'can I touch it' - I haven't let him so far as it has remained tender - I now know probably because of these internal stitches.

  • Tagz - what green eyes: morgan looks lovely.
Raph - that's lovely news. Enjoy your happiness: as delly has already said (as I knew she would) we all go through diff stuff and it good to share the good stuff too. Sounds like you're notletting the lovebug interfere with your debt and weight loss goals, so thumbs up to C.
FFM completely off topic but just sold my 2nd book on amazonbiggrin.gif.
EFRIEZE - good luck for tomorrow
Delly - I'm glad to read the weight loss is at least on side - so often it can go the other way when life hits hard. I'm not suprised you're exhausted. So much must be going on in your head and heart.
Missy - your son must be one of the very oldest in his school year. I was always the youngest. At the time I was relieved I wasn't born 36 hrs later as I eould have been a whole year behind at school, but now I think actually, I would have been better off in the year below.
Babykat - fantastic that you have been maintaining and & not putting on, and now had a big loss. Well done you.
FFM - sounds like you are eating well and taking a very balance approach. You know your body and the importance for you not to get fixated so it looks like you are dealing with this very sensibly.
Not sure if you are playing rugby today suggs, but hope it was a less boring game than last week.
Beanie - impressed that you still had some easter egg left. Or did you just find it down the back of the sofabiggrin.gif
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
  • I take dry muesli (add the milk later), flask of hot water, tea bags, bottle of milk and a banana to try to stay on healthy food at the boot fair

Oooh! Must bring flask! Missus drinks coffee so I will have to bring all the bits separate, and have just hot water in the flask.

Anyone else having problems viewing smilies? They don't show in posts at home, unless I'm typing a new reply, or editing a post. In work they show as boxes with red crosses  I assume cos the boss has amended the filters.

But surely that's because boys are made of frogs & snails and puppy dog tails? lol.gif

  • BB, well done on the book sale, I've been selling on Amazon for over 4 years now and I still get a buzz when a book sells. I think it helps that I love books and like sending them off to their new owners - I often feel like I'm 'rescuing' them when I buy them to sell on. I've got books hidden in wardrobes and a shed full of them.

I think it is an advantage being one of the older ones in the school year. I'm a December birthday, and the rest of the monkeys are Oct, Nov and Dec.

I'm definitely feeling more relaxed about food now that I'm not 'fixated' (good word for what it felt like) about trying to increase my weight without over doing it.

I think I have maintained quite well, in the last 6 months since the end of Feb I have weighed 2lbs lighter than I am today and 4lbs heavier. So a 6lb range over 6 months feels like a success. I sincerely feel that posting on here every week keeps me focussed. So, a big thank you to everyone on here.

I did get to this weight previously, after having little monkey no2, but when I went to the doctors because everyone said I was too thin - she just laughed and said 'well eat more food'. I was daft enough to think - okay the doctor said I should eat so I better had, I ate for England and ended up 3 stone heavier - duh.

    So, thanks again everybody.

I thought the smilie thing was just me, I was going to have a moan at Mr Monkey later (he's my IT support) - good job you asked.

I don't like tea if it's made in a flask, but it tastes just fine if you make it with bags and hot water as and when you need it. Handy too if you both like different drinks - you only need one flask.

Oh that's great to hear you're more comfortable with how it's going FFM! You're my maintaining icon you know ;) You are exactly where I want to be, keeping a low BMI while still being able to enjoy food in the 1800-2000 calories per day range :D (tho right now 1500/day would be a feast :p)

My son is the oldest in his class BB but he would have been youngest if he'd arrived a bit closer to his due date :p What are you up to this weekend? Have you been getting through all those tasks you had lined up during your leave from work?

The smiley thing is affecting lots of people Raph, there's a thread about it on here somewhere. Oh and please never feel bad about posting good news stories on here!!! Unfortunately bad/sad things happen... :( So we need the good stuff to balance it out!
