Got massive chicken - not sure of weight, but worth 7.40 - marked large in sheffield yesterday at 5pm - loads there, must be getting big deliveries. looking forward to the souffles - I think the med veg are a bit small for the original price...never normally shop at M and S but looking forward to sunday lunch now :)

This is such a good deal...well worth going for! Dinner for two? We had one of the large (£7.40) chickens roasted laste night and it fed four of us with enough left over to make paella or stir fry for us all tonight, plus there will be bones for soup. Plus about a weeks worth of scraps for the cat. Bargain!

Anyone tried the jelly fruit terrine? It's gorgeous. The kids fought over every last scrap.
    Val.

Hey Val, not seen ya in a while, hope you had a great time :)

Ok, so...I also went over to get some 'large' oakham chickens to go with my potatoes/trifle/rose combo and after reading your post this morning, picked up an 'extra large' oakham chicken as well.. £7.55 i think it was, but they no-way go through as part of the £10 deal!

The labled 'Large' size one did (£6.77) no probs but not the 'Extra large'. And by you stating you got them for £9 they must be 'frickin humongous size' as our largest 'Extra large' was just £7 odd, nowhere near £9.
God only knows how it classed as part of your £10 deal? I tried both manned and SS tills, both a definate no-no with anything over the 'large size'..

Do you have a different offer on in Scotland where 'XXL' Chickens are allowed? If not, your 'large' are waaay wrong in their pricing structure, either that, or i'm moving up there! :rotfl:

Anywho, mega happy with my choices, :j but this has baffled me and would really like to know if anyone else managed any other size than medium/large with their meal deal if you bought the whole Oakham chicken?

    Thanks guys

    xx

They were stickered as part of the deal and that was the price, so they went through as such. Have to say I don't recall if they were L or XL. They were labelled as "Scottish" Oakham chickens though. I wonder if that makes a difference?
    Val.
  • This is such a fab deal! Went yesterday, got 6 deals - 5 large chickens, salmon joint, 6 potatoes, trifle, 3 souffle, 2 fruit salad, 6 rose wine, plus got the Time and got lovely fizzy rose for £5.00. Wine is 25% off this weekend, and 10% extra discount for 6 bottles. Got a few other bits as well, and total got nearly £130 worth for £67. Each chicken easily makes 4 good meals plus enough on carcass for soup. Potatoes i think are the best value as they are really good quality new potatoes. Med veg - i can do my own very cheap, salad - preprepared is not such good value. The lemon souffles are fab, fruit salad takes a lot more prep so I think is a good buy. The trifle will give 4 helpings, or 3 if you are greedy (!). (Cooked one chicken last night, got visitors tomorrow so will do 2 then, and 2 plus the salmon in the freezer.) As mentioned in other posts, make sure you get the larger chickens, as the medium and large are both included; and pick through the large ones to get the biggest weight. Oh, and go early...

The 10% voucher should not be used in conjunction with the 25% off offer. Most storees will not accept both together, they shouldn't anyway!

I work for m&s (shrewsbury store) and we've been told that the 10% voucher DOES go through alongside the 25% voucher-staff also get the 20% staff discount on top of this :j
  • Hey, my husband and I quit drinking over a year ago & we're wondering if there's a alternative beverage you can get with this deal... M&S Cream Soda is so yummy!

yes - not Cream Soda though but you can have a pack of two orange juice cartons (I think they are normally about £3ish).

I think it's Valencia Orange Juice or something!
  • This is how it worked out for us today. Should have cost £62.20. Actually cost £33.50.
Got 6 bottles of wine - usual cost £33.44 (so everything after this was essentially free!)
    3 main courses - usually £16.27.
    3 desserts - usually £8.67.
NO veg - there was a poor selection and mentioned this at till while putting our 3 bags of spuds through. She very kindly said that we could have a £5 voucher instead but this would mean the £10 deal would't work. We took the 3 vouchers as we figured we could get veg for less than £15 elsewhere!
So we didn't get the meal deal but we did get the following discounts:
    £15 vouchers
    £8.37 25% off 6 bottles of wine.
    £4.19 off Times wine.
