Good Luck Olive. My DH works away in the week, but at least he is home at the weekend. It is postive you are setting goals. Hope you can get your gardening done today,it is a mixture of sunshine and cloud here today, but they do give rain for later. Enjoy your day. Cassey.

    Day 3
Well not a good start today, I woke to the sound of rain and turned over and went back to sleep :o When I finally got up, the rain had eased a bit and the honeystuckle had been torn from the fence leaving the bindweed intact  Sadly this honeysuckle has already been a bit of a challenge as the neighbour whose fence it is, objects to me growing things up "his" fence, and the last remaining one of the 3 plants has had to withstand the onslaught of weedkiller! (told another neighbour that I knew what he was doing, and he stopped ;) )
In the post today was a rejection letter from the BBC, they took 8 weeks to tell me my latest work wasn't worth reading :o I'd grown a bit hopeful due to the length of time they'd taken. Perhaps I'll try a bit of gritty realism next time.
Skyped Popeye and moaned to him (I'm sure he appreciated it :D ) and we've decided I won't be giving an interview to Jonathon Ross when I'm a successful playwright because of todays rejection. Felt better :D

13 watchers on the 9 items so far, but with 8-9 days to go.

If it clears up a bit more I think I'll weed the vegetable patch. There are some carrots and leeks coming through. I daren't thin them though, there wouldn't be much left. Described myself to Popeye as "brown-fingered" this morning, but decided that sounded rude. What is the opposite of green-fingered? Lawn will have to wait until it dries out. At the moment we could grow rice. And it was so nice yesterday!

Karmacat, I like your suggestion, but would I then spend more time on the computer instead of doing the garden? I'll just take a look......

    Day 3 Part II
It has been a mixed day for me today. When the weather improved I decided to get into the garden. I had a very frustrating 40 minutes failing to start the new petrol strimmer. I ended up on the bench behind the shed weeping with exhaustion and frustration. I realise this is largely down to the tail end of my chest infection wearing me down but:
    1) why has my illness dragged on for so long? I'm SO sick of being ill, coughing all night and being exhausted by the slightest exertion during the day.
    2) why don't my 2 sons come home and say "let me mow the lawn for you" - I know the answer to that, I'm from Eastern European extraction and built like a cart horse and don't look as though I need help (The user name is a bit of wishful thinking :rotfl: ) But I so wish I looked more in need of help sometimes.
    3) Why after a year of debt busting am I not debt free? It only took 7 years to get into this state, surely with a bit of determination I should be clear in 7 months?
and 4) Why isn't the weight falling off me, I've been dieting for 3 days now?

Sorry for the self pity, funnily enough I feel better just off-loading that :o

On the positive side, I did manage to get the lawn mown and the carrots leeks and broad beans weeded. Though I did have to keep coming indoors to rest. I also finally planted a bottle brush plant to replace the latest dead shrub. I have greater hopes for this plant. My success rate isn't good. Of the dozen herbacious plants installed in Spring, only a lupin, a hollyhock and a Daisy have survived. And they're being choked by grass, so I'll get onto that bed soon I hope.

I've also undercoated the new bookshelves, and this will help in the plan to bring all the books down from the loft so that I can list those of mine worth selling. (I've promised not to list any of Popeyes just yet....)

16 watchers and 2 items have bids. I may list some more to keep up the momentum.....

Hi hun.....these long stretches without OH are tough, aren't they - my dad worked in the middle east for many many years with very few visits home - and my mum was not the sort who could face the "expat-wife" lifestyle, so we stayed here.

So (((hugs))) while you are feeling low. I hope that tomorrow brings you sunshine and positivity xxx

Sorry you're feeling so bad OliveOyl....I had a long bout of infection earlier this year, I sympathise entirely. And your OH so far away - Skype is okay, but of course its not the same.

As for a gardening success rate.... I planted fuschias and sedum last year, about 8 plants in all. Now, only one sedum has survived - and oddly enough, its got nine tiny little babies around it. Why? I dunno, I haven't done anything different to that one than I did to the others, but it rooted and just kept going. They really do have a life of their own.

Hope tomorrow is better for you.

Im more of a lurker than a poster (does that make me sound weird to start with??) but just wanted to say I really support you in all your efforts! I too am a wanabee size 6 after a week of dieting, when the garlic bread in my freezer is calling my name (VVV loudly too) again!! And I appreciate how you feel not having OH at home.
Just a quick point - have a look at amazon for listing your books. It takes about 30 seconds per book as you put in ISBN number and sort a price based on what your title has sold at over past few days. Know what you mean about not getting going but I listed 17 items in an hour and didnt have to faff with photos etc.
From my point of view though (I am a teacher) September will come round all too fast after the long holidays and with it the whole going back to work thing. I know that time seems to drag when you are waiting for something so special though so will keep lurking on your thread (oh err!!)

I'm loving the new diary Olive, although all of this garden talk of green things (they have names:confused: ) is a bit over my head.

My hubby is away a lot too and it does suck. I can't complain though, last year it was me who was on the road more than him. But it does get lonely doesn't it.

Hey, and don't forget, come november you are on babysitting duty. I've signed you up :D that'll keep you busy!

I'm really looking forward to the babysitting Toto! :D

We have a few boxes in the loft that will never go on e-bay, Duplo, & Brio.
And give Popeye a chance to get his train set out and he'll be back like a shot.....hmmmmm.....

Welcome SpendHappy, glad to see you posting. I found that I lurked more when I was down hearted and posted when I felt cheery. This diary/Blogette is supposed to more honest, though at the moment it has been a bit of a pantsy-moan I promised myself I would post the misery as well as the good stuff.

Today it is raining again, and I'm sort of pleased to have an excuse to stay out of the garden :o
Two of the items on e-bay have bids....with EIGHT days to go  I'm hoping for a bidding war. :D

The chest infection is helping my weight loss, but I'm scuppering the good effect by choosing to finish a tube of Pringles for brunch :o

And I haven't written a word for weeks now.

But I feel a lot more positive today. Rehearsal this afternoon, and supper at a friends tonight. And I found a 70's kitchen gadget (an EZ peel) that may find a buyer on e-bay  :rotfl: But I'll list it on the 5p day, don't want to waste 20p :rotfl:
