I've been trying to get an answer from SelectSpecs as I want to order some of their Rudy Project Skalpel range.
Can't get an answer by e-mail (and yes I've checked the spam filter).
Worries me that the phone number just says "send an e-mail to sales@selectspecs.com" and nothing happens, not even a reply acknowledging the e-mail's been received. Also worries me in case anything went wrong?
Anyone got a real phone number for them? or should I go elsewhere?
My current pair of glasses are from them, and I had no bother at all. The invoice says:
Postal address: PO Box 182, Margate, Kent, CT9 1YU
Telephone: 01843 835568 Fax: 01843 833475
I also emailed them because I wanted them to make the arm length quite short, and I got a reply the next day. The reply was from the sales@selectspecs email address, and signed by Tony Russell. Glasses arrived quite quickly, but the screws have worked themselves loose from the lenses (I have rimless glasses where the screws go into the lenses) a few times. Still, I didn't pay more than £20 for them, so I'm not too fussed about doing a bit of DIY on them.
Specsdot.com also got back to me eventually, admitting that they didn't have much of the stock that was currently on their website "because we're in the process of updating it". I tried suggesting a few alternative frames, but disappointingly, they were all out of stock or discontinued. Granted, they offered to do me a good deal on any frames I liked that they did have in stock, but I've since ordered from Goggles4u, and I'll just keep half-looking in case the CK frames I wanted appear elsewhere© Cuilean 2005. Any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental.0 -

Just bought two pairs of glasses from http://39dollarglasses.com
I wanted varifocals with transition lenses, my local opticians (one of the big chains) wanted £330.00 just for one pair of lenses. 39dollarglasses did me a pair of glasses with high index transition lenses plus a pair of high index clear glasses for US$276.90, delivered UK, about £140.00.
The glasses arrived quicker than the lead time I was quoted in the UK and that's in the middle of a postal dispute!
Do yourself a favour and save a packet!!!

Hi! I have been reading this thread, and decided to take the plunge and order some glasses from Fashionspecsdirect.com. Well, I only have good things to say about this company! I received my glasses quickly, but they were a bit misaligned, so I gave the company a call and left a message. A gentleman called me back within half an hour, and was very apologetic, absolutely lovely. He offered to make me another pair immediately and post it the next day, and I didn't even have to send my original pair back! All that for free!
That is an absolutely outstanding customer service experience, and I just had to tell about it.
I just receive an email from them saying that the glasses were posted today, and explaining what could have been the cause of the problem. I'm VERY VERY happy with the service and would recommend, no problem. :T Thanks for the tip, MSE people!
Having had similarly excellent care and service from this company (and customer service is one of my areas, believe me!) I am pleased to hear that my experience was not a one-off. They get my thumbs-up, too.
Never just take cost as the over-riding factor on the 'net. Look at all aspects of feedback for the company you may be buying from. You won't go far wrong if you do that.“When the customer comes first, the customer will last”0 -
Is it safe to get VariFocals by post. I always thought it best to have them fitted at an optician.
If the area you look through is not central it can be dodgy.
Anyone have experience of this?0 -
More chance of it going wrong, have not tried them with varifocals, some of the websites specifically exclude them. Others e.g. glassesdirect offer home-visit by optician. Don't know if this still is moneysaving.0

I have just got a pair of bifocals from SelectSpecs. When I got them the lenses caused my eyes a lot of discomfort so I emailed them asking what I should do. Within a couple of hours they asked me to send them back with a copy of the original prescription. I did this and they emailed me back saying that the lenses were made correctly but they would make another pair up in case there was a problem they could not detect.
The new specs arrived a couple of days ago & I have been wearing them without a problem since then.
So no problems with this company as far as I am concerned.0 -
I want to order from optical4less and this is my first pair of eye glasses. I have my RX and PD but don't understand the PD 27.5/29.0 On the PD drop down menu it goes from 35 to 90. Do I add my two numbers together? I have no idea.
Thanks for any help0 -

Yes you do add together - you've been given a monocular PD (ie distance from the centre of your nose to the centre of each pupil) - most online sites use a binocular PD (ie the distance between the centre of the pupils)
What is the strength of your prescription? If it's strong (or bifocals/varifocals) you need to quote the mono. I guess as they're your first glasses they probably won't be so you'll probably be OK just adding together.
Out of interest what frames did you select?0
