What is the strength of your prescription? If it's strong (or bifocals/varifocals) you need to quote the mono. I guess as they're your first glasses they probably won't be so you'll probably be OK just adding together.
Out of interest what frames did you select?
Thank you Shrimpergarry
I've been wearing readers for several years and now I need some distance correction.
My prescription is sphere +1.00 Add +2.25 I tried to order the rimless hingeless Transtional/photochromic progressive lenses that are on a Limited-time discount for $198USD (not$298) last night and my order came to $247 with nothing else added to the shopping card. I tried twice and came up the same both times so I emailed optical4less and haven't heard back yet.0 -
Hi everyone
Just joined, but have been browsing the forums for a while. Would just like to say a big thank-you to all the people who recommended online specs sites. I've bought a pair from https://www.specs-by-post.com, who were extremely helpful (my prescription was outside the ranges available on the website, but they sorted it out over the phone) and I now have a very nice pair of specs, and saved at least 200 quid.:j Have also ordered a second pair from goggles4u after recommendations here, and look forward to trying them out too.:A.0 -

Fashion Specs Direct will reglaze your existing glasses frame for you from £9.95. You'll have to email them for a quote as some lenses (eg 'thin' ones) may cost more than regular ones.0 -

We sometimes use ciliaryblue.com for the glazing services to my own Opticians, they do have a price list on-line I think. Have a look. (I'm an Optician, so don't really agree with this type of thing, but there are some internet suppliers that do seem to know what they are doing!)0 -
I've bought a couple of pairs from glassescrafter, 1 Diesel and 1 Oakley. There was a problem with one of the lenses in the Diesel frames, but the Oakleys were fine. If you do have a problem it means sending the frames back to Shanghai, which is a major hassle. On top of that the frames take a few weeks to arrive in the first place (however they do appear genuine and are very cheap).
If I were to order from them again I would just ask them to send the frames, and then get them glazed in England, that way if there's a problem with the lenses its easier to get sorted out.
It is a genuine site, but I know what you mean, it does look a bit mickey mouse in places!
I've also ordered a pair from Glassescrafter and agree that site doesn't exactly look professional but actually the glasses were great. I got a pair of Marc Jacobs and I get comments from so many people asking where I got them from, they cost me £45! I also got a pair from Site91, Calvin Klein ones, which cost me £150 (half the price I was quoted in Optix) and planned to have the Marc Jacobs ones as a spare but I've not ended up wearing the CKs as I love the MJs ones so much!0 -
Why are so many people making recommendations being accused of spamming?
Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.0 -

Because if you look at how many messages they leave it's usually 1 message and no 'thanks' scores.
Also usally has link and the message leaver usually over eggs the praise of service and product.
bbruce go back and take alook at a few messages now. You will see them in a new light. The more I live, the more I learn.

A couple of questions:
I have two pair of glasses, one pair has my most recent perscription but the frame is a bit broke. My other pair are fine except that the lenses are from an old perscription. They are the same glasses. Can the lenses be taken out of the broken glasses and put into the other ones?
Specsavers seem to have a 2for1 on the moment, can they be used on different styles? Can I use a NHS voucher for money off and/or an NUS discount?
Sorry for all the questions! Thanks.Student MoneySaving Club member 017!0 -
I have had very successful dealings with http://zennioptical.com and www.designerglasses.co.uk
The staff at Designer glasses are very helpful and delivered within two days!
My glasses from Zenni took 3 weeks to arrive but it was worth the wait. Their rimless frames are fully customisable with about 30 lens shapes available. The lenses are thin with UV coating, etc. I chose a thin metal frame thinking not much could go wrong. They provide all the dimensions so there were no surprises on arrival. Fully customised glasses for under £20 inc p&p, the highstreet is dead.0 -

Yes, the lenses can be swapped over into the other frame, no problem. The 2 for 1 can be used on different styles, and you can use NHS vouchers if you're entitled. Not sure about the NUS discounts thoDFW Nerd #104 I :heartpuls my Kittenand my hat :heartpuls
