Husband wants varifocals, NHS prescription has prescription for near and distance on 2 separate lines ie 8 boxes per eye, but Zennioptical form just has 4 boxes per eye, sph, cyl axis and add, so don't know what to put in add box as drop down values only go to +3.75 which doesn´t relate to anything on prescription.
Anyway I´ve written to them yet again

The add is the difference between the spheres of the near and distance prescriptions. For example, if you have something stating distance +2.00sph -1.00cyl 35 axis and reading +5.00sph -1.00cyl 35 axis then the add is +3.00

I don't really know the format yours will be written in - it's quite possible that your prescription has a cyl that has a + rather than a - which is perfectly acceptable. The rule for the add is the same tho. Post your full prescription and someone will be able to clear it up for you if the company don't get back to you :)

. Post your full prescription and someone will be able to clear it up for you if the company don't get back to you :)

Here is a copy of my husbands NHS prescription:
    prescription for distance
    .....................Sph Cyl Axis Add
    OD(right eye): +2.50 - 0.50 30 0
    OS(left eye): +2.25 - 0.25 100 0
    prescription for near vision follows:
    ......................Sph Cyl Axis Add
    OD(right eye): +5.00 -0.50 30 0
    OS(left eye): +4.75 -0.25 100 0

The Zenni optical site has 4 boxes for each eye ie sph, cyl, axis, add.

So should the details I give them be
    ..............Sph Cyl Axis Add
    right eye +2.50 -0.50 30 +2.50
    left eye +2.25 -0.25 100 +2.50

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank goodness I´m only short sighted and had no trouble transcribing my prescription:j

Sorry I can´t get the headings etc to line up properly with the readings

Tried to place an order with http://www.specsdot.com last night. Got through the HSBC-run payment process fine, and went to take a printout of my payment confirmation, only to find that my printer didn't want to play along  Reset printer, printed out payment confirmation and hit the button which said "Click here to complete your order request and return to the merchant's website".

I was then directed to a page designed by their website company saying "Sorry, this page cannot be found" Fired off a "Did it work or did my printer cause a time out?" email to their customer service email addy, but I've got no idea whether the order's been accepted, and they don't appear to be open on Saturdays. If I've not heard from them by the end of Monday, I'll be down at the bank to ask whether my money is floating around cyberspace

My question is, is it possible to bend the arms yourself?I would imagine it would need a hairdryer and pliers??!!Thanks, Foxy.

I have always(as an adult) adjusted my own without problem, just bend by hand, helps to get some that are good close match on size to start with.

Try the hingless mine fitted without adjustment.

I received my pair of semi rimless glasses from goggles4u a week after ordering and I'm very pleased with them :T and no adjustments needed.

    Nice frame choice !!

I *nearly* got myself another pair, ive already ordered 5 this year i think its becoming an illness ;)

If specs need adjustment, heat evenly at bend with hairdryer and be sure to straighten the existing curve as much as possible, use your thumb to get a nice bend by bending it over the pad (base to tip NOT across). For a good fit the curve should start to bend at the top of the ear and follow neatly around the back, if it is too long OR short the specs will slide down. The bend should be a gentle curve not a right angle ;) and simply bending the end so its a tighter angle will just make them hurt, you need to shorten the length so the curve starts further up the arm. If they need adjustment any where else its best to get them done properly, as you will be altering where the lens sits in front of the eye and therefore potentially changing the vision.
