Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
I'm quite interested in these http://www.goggles4u.com/detail.asp?PID=15392

Can anyone explain the measurements to me?

    ie.
    Front Length 125 mm
    Temple/Arm 135 mm
    Eye H 26 L 48
    Nose/Bridge 19 mm

I quite like the size of my glasses currently, is the front length from the corner of the arm to the corner of the other arm? or from the left side of the left lense to the right side of the right lense?

    What's the Temple/arm?

£7.50 seems a bargain, my last pair were £140, and i chipped them within a week, which i still have!!! they're nearly 4 years old now!!!!

Edit, i think i must have lost my glasses as there is a link on the site about how it works!!!!

    Hi,
I am a Optician with my own practice. I had one of my patients come to see me, having had their glasses reglazed at less than half the cost, than we would have charged. I was ready to advise the patient about the pitfalls of doing such a thing, but after inspection (I hate to admit it) found the workmanship to be excellent, the p.d was correct and the prescription was spot on. As a consequence the patient was having no problems at all!
After much research it transpires that the company that made them (https://www.ciliaryblue.com) also provide similar glazing services to my own practice (and others) albeit for emergencies only. Hence the quality of the work.
There is room for companies like these that can work and run along side the High Street Optcians.
But do make sure the p.d (pupillary distance) is used correctly as it can have an impact on the quality and comfort visually for the wearer.
So for those who have to use an on-line glazing service, please make sure they use realiable companies.
I hope this is of some use?
  • Got my specs in 3 days from Fashion Specs Direct
and couldn't be happier - they even have a deal running where they add the same prescription sunglasses for FREE :j if you buy glasses for 19 quid or more.

They were shipped in the UK, so I suppose that's how I got them so quickly.

    has anybody used https://www.selectspecs.com before?

They seem to have a large collection of glasses and look professional enough.

Have used Selectspecs twice. Once for new bifocals and another time for a varifocal specs reglaze. Was very pleased with the quality of the work, the frame and the lens fitted. Turnaround time was just over a week.

Cheers, have just placed my order with them.

Good to know they are fast at delivery
  • Hi All,

I've used https://www.goggles4u.com a few times and have found them to be very good. It's a USA company and the glasses ship from Pakistan. Shipping is about 7 days but at £15 all-in I'm not complaining.
  • Why pay for your own glasses / contacts / eye test when your employer might do it?!

I don't know if it's a legal requirement, but a lot of employers offer a free eye test to their employees every 2 years and also may give you a contribution toward the cost of glasses if you require them to do your work! I work on a PC and need glasses to combat eyestrain but not for anything else.

The company I used to work for paid a big contribution towards my last pair and because I went to their recommended supplier, I got a 25% staff discount on the bit I did have to pay.
In the end, I only paid £65 for my glasses with YSL designer frames and a special prism which usually costs an extra £30 on top of the lens cost (I have a weird prescription, don't ask!)

Ask your health & safety officer or HR dept...if you don't ask you don't get!

    :T
    Debt 2007 £17k :(

    Current Debt approx £7.5k :)

Target - to pay off all debts by 2020 :A

I agree with you BHC! My employer gave out vouchers to employees who worked on VDUs (yes - they really were called that!!) and that enabled them to get a free test and a pair of specs.

Definitely worth asking your manager and'or HR dept what the company policy on this is.
