Does anyone know where I can get larger aviatoir style frames from. Husband has v.old pair of carbon fibre frames from specsavers, about 10 yrs ago and they broke, but specsavers don't do them anymore, and everywhere we look there is these little designer frames, but he needs, in his words, big windows to see out of. All the styles on the online opticions are too small . Is anyone an independant opticion who has access to a catalogue of sorts. We are clutching at straws now, but desperately need new ones. Cheers

I know the frames you refer to, I used to work at Specsavers.

If you didn't mind having rimless specs then it should be possible to replicate the shape and size of the lens you are happy with.

Actually - I just tried .com and that works too! :p

I did a pile of research (mostly on this site) before I grabbed my free eye test. This then gets you your free prescription which you can take to any optician online (in my case Fashion Specs Direct ) or in the high street. You enter the prescription online, filling in the info just as it appears on the prscription you got from the optician who did your test. It really was that simple!

Here's some info I gleaned from this site and otheres about how to get free eye tests and the resultant free prescription:

    1) You can join Boots Online Health Club – every one who joins gets a free prescription! You can join the Organ Donor scheme too, if you like (no good to me – I haven’t even got a piano to donate!)

    2) The current month M&S magazine (£1 or free to &More card holders) there's a voucher for a free eye test. In '’Source' magazine, the free organ for Waitrose and JL consumers, there is a free D&A eye test voucher that’s good through June.

    3) Check out the high-street Optical Express and Dolland & Aitchison – they do free eye test promotions from time to time. I think D&A may doing this ‘til June.

    4) Some folk qualify for free eye tests because of their status. Ie., if you fall into one of the following categories:
    • If you are under 16 (under 25 in Wales): OR
    • If you are under 19 and in full-time education: OR
    • If you are aged 60 or over: OR
    • If you (or your partner) gets one of the following:
    • Income Support.
    • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance.
    • Pension Credit Guarantee Credit.
    • If you have an NHS tax credit exemption certificate.
    • Some war pensioners - if treatment is connected with the pensionable disability.

I did this research a little while ago so take a few moments to check out if its still okay rather than taking it as 'gospel', so to speak!

Hope this is helpful to yuo!

    Hi,

Does anyone know of a UK company with the software so you can upload a photo of yourself to use to try on different styles?

I can only find a US site https://www.framesdirect.com which is good for trying the different shapes but not for specific frames.

    Thanks

    Tescobootsmad/Diehard -

I'd find a site that works - and take Pebble's advice if I were you !

Following the threads on the foum I ordered a pair of glasses from https://www.fashionspecsdirect.co.uk and Glasses direct on Monday - I'm amazed to say that the glasses from fashion specs direct arrived today, about 2.5 days from ordering. They are absolutely fine, and it is a luxuary to have a pair that are the right prescription (as I last updated lenses about 3 yrs ago).
Very impressed with speed, and happy with glasses - based on the amazing service I received would happily recommend them!

Just to say - the website appears to be up today. HOWEVER... DH ordered a pair of prescription sunglasses - they should have arrived by now. Emails are now being bounced back, the phone number goes to answermachine. I would not recommend using them. We are just trying to see what we can do.

    Have they gone bust?

    Any info anyone?
