You did better than me Julian I emailed fashionspecs direct and I never even got a reply.

Better to stick with justrimless.com or spex4less.com as in my experience they comunicate very well. (good resuls from both of them too)

Just had a look at the fashionspecs site I dont know about others but I am put off when the only telephone point of contact is a mobile number. I also notice that you have to pay extra for anti scratch. If you want antiscratch (£10), uv protection (£15) and an AR coating (£15) thats an extra £40!!!! Not so cheap now....

If you want antiscratch, uv protection and an AR coating spex4less will do it for free!! Justrimless do a monthly promotion and one month it was free AR coating so might be worth keeping an eye (pardon the pun) on their website.

By the way I have no connection with any of the above companies.

    Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for that, 'Brinky'. You are of course 100% correct factually - except I can't vouch for your e-mail problem. (Gremilns, eh??:) )

When buying anything, and especially on the internet, I always only go for sites that have been recommended to me by other satified members of my family, friends or work colleagues. The cheapest isn't always the best (you can always find someone cheaper no matter what you're after!) and personal recommendation rates very highly in my book - as I'm sure it does for most people.

After all - you wouldn't just pick someone out of the Yellow Pages to do a job for you if you had someone else who came highly recommended! That's where I quite openly stand with Fashion Specs Direct.

Oh - and I don't have any connection either with them - outside of being a very happy customer who believes in the old fashioned way of shouting about a business if its any good (just as I wouldn't recommend one that was bad!).

I just checked out your friend Rick's site at "justrimless". It was a bit hard to find my way around (but I am a bit new to this internet lark!) - but I spotted that they charge £40, too, for thin lenses. Must be the going rate!

Sorry to be a pain but yet another question...is my prescription (without adding to the cost of thinning) ok for anything but plastic frames?

    Right Sph -3.75, cly 0.25, axis 90
    Left eye -4.00

Is the lenses considered too thick?

Choose the smallest frame you can (lens size wise) and oval if possible, this will help keep the thickness down, there is no reason you cant have a metal frame.

Unfortunately there will always be some thickness with a prescription like this, but to give you an idea my last pair were standard CR39 material, in a rectangular frame that measures 51mm in the widest part and the lens is 5mm at the thickest point. My prescription is slightly different as I have astigmatism but its higher than yours.

Having almost died at the cost of new specs in Specsavers the other day, I ordered some from glassesdirect.co.uk, after reading about them here, they arrived in a week and are fab, especially as they were only £15. Customer services were really fast at replying to my email too, as I'd had a daft moment and used my oh's prescription instead of mine, duh! Anyway have just ordered oh some rimless glasses, and sunglasses for both of us, and the total cost is less than one pair of rimless glasses in specsavers!
GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£400

Hi all, just wanted to post to recommend a company vision2you.com. I saw a pair of DKNY frames in boots which worked out £160 inc lenses after checking the net and taking the plunge with a online company. This morning 2 weeks later as was a delay with manufactuer I am the proud owner of the said same frames with standard lenses with anti glare and scratch resistant for £80.00 all in.:j All you need is a recent eye test which I got free with the D&A voucher on here, so this money saver is very happy.
    Hope this helps someone :D
  • After reading some recommendations on here I just had to share my experience with Fashionspecsdirect. My experience of buying glasses online is limited to two companies, Glasses Direct and Goggles4u. I bought prescription sunglasses from Goggles4u last year but I needed them within a couple of weeks. I had to e-mail them a few times and they agreed to send them priority mail from India. They got them to me in time and they were fine but the quality was very poor in the finishing and although the lenses were fine to look through, they had imperfections around the edges. For about £15 I wasn't going to complain though! My wife bought prescription sunglasses from Glasses Direct last year and they arrived after about 3 weeks and were fine although quite a bit more expensive.

Well, I needed to replace my cheapy Goggles4u sunglasses and again I had left it late (I go on holiday in 2 weeks!) Last week I e-mailed Glasses Direct and Fashionspecsdirect to see if they could deliver within a 3 weeks. Glasses Direct said:

'If you order over the phone and explain that you are off on holiday, we will be able to put the glasses on an urgent request which may reach you within 3weeks. We do hope that glasses reach our customers within 10-14days but this does not always happen.'

    Fashionspecs direct replied:

'I can guarantee that we will ship your prescription sunglasses well within three weeks.
Normally, we ship within a few days - even sunglasses.'

So I took the plunge and ordered prescription sunglasses wioth Fashionspecsdirect late Tuesday. I couldn't beleive it when the glasses were posted through my letterbox first thing this morning! Now that's service! The Glasses are excellent - very good quality in fact. I'm extremely happy :j :j They included a covering letter in the package that ended with 'Enjoy your holiday' so they must have remembered me from my e-mail - nice touch. The glasses cost just £35 so if you want cheap glasses delivered with lightning speed, check them out.
  • Hi

Has anyone ever used selectspecs.com before? I've just had a quick look at their site and their prices seem really reasonable. I went for an eye test this morning and was told I needed to change my lenses. I have a stigmatism(sp?) in my left eye though... would it be ok to buy glasses online? Or would it be better to buy in store from an opticians?

Just received two new pairs of glasses of two different sites today.ones from https://www.optical4less.com and ones from https://www.site4eyes.co.uk, both pairs are brilliant and very trendy, they both costs about £20 as well.

I will certainly use both sites again, hope this helps someone

I have used SelectSpecs a few times and they have been great, even when I was not happy with a frame they exchanged it. I have got Astigmatism and as long as you get your PD correct you should be fine.

I sent my glasses to get re-glazed just under two weeks ago and should be getting they any day soon.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll give them a go and order some at lunchtime. Hopefully they'll be ok!
