If you're brave you can heat up plastic legs and bend them.
Colin
Thank you but I'm too scared to do that!:D
Another question i'm afraid:eek:
Tried last night to put my prescription through and it kept flagging up errors....can I phone my optician and ask what its supposed to be or is that abit of a hard neck?
All my form has is right eye: sph,cyl and axis
Left eye:sph and a huge line through everything else
No other writing whatsoever?????????
Is that actually normal?:rotfl:You may walk and you may run

Yes, the cyl corrects astigmatism. It just means that you have astigmatism in only one eye.
Hope this helps.0 -

I had a query on my prescription (couldn't read all the writing and it looked a bit 'odd'). I spoke to a lovely young lady at Fashion Specs Direct who called me back with an explanation of the prescription details. It turns out it was correct anyway - but they were very helpful indeed.0 -
Excellent result on two fronts folks! I've managed to talk the wife in to buying her specs online (she saw mine were okay!), too!
AND I received a follow-up email today from Fashion Specs Direct giving me a 5% discount code off my next purchase! This was after I emailed THEM to say 'thanks' for the good service etc etc.
Just goes to show - a brief e-mail often comes up trumps, even though I wasn't after anything in return!
My faith in buying online is restored and, more importantly, it'll be the wife's first online purchase of ANY kind!
Thanks to all!0 -
You did better than me Julian I emailed fashionspecs direct and I never even got a reply.
Better to stick with justrimless.com or spex4less.com as in my experience they comunicate very well. (good resuls from both of them too)
Just had a look at the fashionspecs site I dont know about others but I am put off when the only telephone point of contact is a mobile number. I also notice that you have to pay extra for anti scratch. If you want antiscratch (£10), uv protection (£15) and an AR coating (£15) thats an extra £40!!!! Not so cheap now....
If you want antiscratch, uv protection and an AR coating spex4less will do it for free!! Justrimless do a monthly promotion and one month it was free AR coating so might be worth keeping an eye (pardon the pun) on their website.
By the way I have no connection with any of the above companies.
Hope this helps someone.0 -
Sorry to be a pain but yet another question...is my prescription (without adding to the cost of thinning) ok for anything but plastic frames?
Right Sph -3.75, cly 0.25, axis 90
Left eye -4.00
Is the lenses considered too thick? You may walk and you may run

I have a greater prescription than that and I used to have metal frames until I started buying on the net. Yes, they were a bit thick, but they did look OK. I now have semi-rimless on a slightly thinner lens that I bought on the net. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
Hi Poppy, I dont know the answer to your question best to ask an optical professional. Try emailling Rick at justrimless on
enquiries@justrimless.com
or phone spex4less on 01204 846363 .
I know from experience that Rick is a whizz at making thin lenses using ordinary Cr39.0 -

Thanks for that, 'Brinky'. You are of course 100% correct factually - except I can't vouch for your e-mail problem. (Gremilns, eh??:) )
When buying anything, and especially on the internet, I always only go for sites that have been recommended to me by other satified members of my family, friends or work colleagues. The cheapest isn't always the best (you can always find someone cheaper no matter what you're after!) and personal recommendation rates very highly in my book - as I'm sure it does for most people.
After all - you wouldn't just pick someone out of the Yellow Pages to do a job for you if you had someone else who came highly recommended! That's where I quite openly stand with Fashion Specs Direct.
Oh - and I don't have any connection either with them - outside of being a very happy customer who believes in the old fashioned way of shouting about a business if its any good (just as I wouldn't recommend one that was bad!).
I just checked out your friend Rick's site at "justrimless" - they charge £40 too for thin lenses. Must be the going rate!0
