boots are giving away vouchers when you spend £10 instore at the moment. the voucher entitles you to £20 off a pair of prescription glasses and their prices start at £30 apparently. there are lots of these vouchers already on ebay for less than a £1 if you dont want to spend £10 at boots to get one.

I have used Optical4less in the past and they do the thin lens and are very good and will answer any queries you have. I have just ordered some from EyeExperts - just waiting for them to arrive but have not used them before so will see what they are like.

Unfortunately EyeExperts dont go above +7.75 and the other one is American - possibly get stung for tax/etc...

Try https://www.zennioptical.com. My own gf has a -8.50 prescription and used Zenni recently for her varifocals. There is a small extra charge for strong prescriptions and they took a fortnight longer than normal to make but the finished spectacles were excellent. The Zenni spex look good and she is very happy the optics. The previous UK high st glasses looked like milk bottle ends, cost more than 4 times as much and performed no better.
Just make certain that the eye prescription is up to date, the Pupillary Distance is correct and the frame size is suitable.

The optical4less you just pay whatever your glasses come to, I paid no extra and they were here in just over a week. The EyeExperts will go over the +7 or -7 as my prescription is over this, you just put all your details in the additional information box but I cannot comment on my glasses yet as I'm still waiting for them but they should be here this week so I will post my comments on them.

Eye test and glasses purchase are two separate things. They must give you the prescription details whether you buy or not. An easy way to get out of the shop without buying is to say that you want your Other Half with you when you choose.

I used Glasses Direct (GD) for variofocals. Poor communication and long delays.
Two weeks for a home visit a further week to coat lenses. Glasses arrived with nose pads badly adjusted so un wearable. Visited GD to get repaired and now side arms falling apart 42 days since order placed. £28 cheaper than ASDA who offered delivery in 28 days. GD did say they were a new company and having problems with home visits and coating supplier(s).
In short glasses cheap as cheap glasses. Never again.

    Just had a similar experience!

Finally - I had a colleague at work recommend an internet site that took all my 'internet-buying' concerns away. That's all you need sometimes! I bought a pair of specs last week (under £20), using my free prescription  , and they were delivered today. Perfect fit and same deal as most others mentioned in this thread. What made me go with this company, though, was a friend's recommendation and the fact that the site wasn't all self-back-slapping (that puts me off).

On the other hand - the wife's just like me and won't yet buy off the internet. It'll be an uphill struggle to get her to buy online! I'll persevere though!

The glasses site was https://www.fashionspecsdirect.co.uk (I think. or maybe .com). But they were a British company and even called me during the week to reassure me they were doing my order!
