Thanks to Avocet for the mint cordial recipe, have had a go at it this evening (lots of mint reduced in Tesco!), added some chopped up lemongrass as well, which I thought might give it a slightly more tangy flavour.. it's cooling as we speak!

Loads of lovely pals to have this new journey with, I'm so very touched!

2 thoughts quickly before I go off to get my spreadsheet to tell you all what I've spent so far and what I intend to do with it...

Was a bit gutted having bought a packet of kalonji seed at the asian supermarket for my naan breads, to realise that this is the seed of the humble 'love-in-the-mist' that springs up everywhere in my garden!

Has anyone had any success with harvesting these? If so, when and how please, all tips very welcome! Ceridwen have you got any useful linkies for me about it?:D

Great mint cordial recipe avocet, definately affordable:money:, and with a hint of foraging required, just my kinda thing;)! Shall I index all our recipes together from this challenge and the last one?

Hev, sorry you're poorly! I'll add my blog address to my profile- warning, I've been busier at work thn I thought and there's only two posts so far! There's more on this thread!!!

And 'hello' to everyone I've not said hello to yet! I'm pressing your thanks button to show you I care!

Bigmumma and shaz, I didn't mean to go AWOL, sorry, I was most definately NOT hiding from you two superstars...;)

Back in a bit with some maths so far, Weezl x

Oooh, good luck! I hope it turns out OK, and that you like it! Just remember to dilute it well, or else the vinegary taste is a bit odd (but strangely addictive, actually). And shake the bottle before serving, because the vinegariness seems to sink and is stronger towards the bottom (this also happens if you leave a glass to sit for a long time).

The lemongrass sounds lovely. Lemongrass and ginger would work well, for another variation, I should think. I've made a batch with orange zest and cardamom, which is delicious (but the cardamom makes it too expensive for this thread). And when we finally work our way through the three different flavours I've already made, I want to try lovage (we have lots in the garden, and I can never think what to do with it), but the family has objected unanimously! :)

Hi Weezl

There was nowt much specific about love in the mist - other than - yes - confirmation that the seeds are edible - as you said.

Did find, however, on edible flowers generally:

Evening all! Just popping in! Only able to say hello briefly when at work as "they" are watching & we're not really meant to use T'internet for real interesting stuff except at lunch time!
Love that minty recipe & may have a go! Have got the ingredients for soap & was going to have a bash tonight Shaz but may ask your advice first if I may! The instructions are SCARY!! Must also have a good examine of the one you did for Weezl to see the poppy seeds but I now have all ingredients/ming stuff ready!
Weezl we know you will do it! When does this one finish so we can plan a party with more planning time! oooo michevous plans afoot!
Would be interested to hear of the freegan exploits but no way I'm skip diving for food...remember this is the girl who only discovered Lidl/aldi a couple of years ago & wont eat out of date food cos it might kill her! I blame my mother! Must off and make bread!! Great to have a new thread, new challenge and lovely to see some party lurkers say hi! Now I know some of you are shy but I also know from a coupe of lovely PM's that you would be a great source of encouragement for our Weezl as she does the next challenge so please do post....
Oooo forgot to say neither Mr or Mrs Weezl looked manky at the end of the challenge! Mr Weezl is lanky but thats cos hes built like that (& can eat a flipping horse & not put on weight which I think is unfair as I only have to look in the direction of anything with a calorie & put a stone on my a@rse!)...No Oh's were harmed in the making of the last challenge. Toilets maybe, but Oh's seemed fine to me! Not sure if Bobs will be as "accomodating" though?!!

Far from O.Hs (ie acetate monkey) being harmed in the course of the Challenge - I get the distinct feeling that our Mr Weezl was enjoying himself as well - this be one man who got married "for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer....and for madcap challenges by wife" - but he seems to be positively thriving on it.;) :D
