What a fantastic challenge, good luck with it :T
Now I'll go and read your last challenge xx:j Bankrupt 6th October 2009 :j:beer: To a Debt-free Future :beer:0 -
after reading your last thread i don`t doubt for a minute that you will succeed on 50p a day and put the rest of us to shame.
how are you planning to do this? have you got recipes in mind or are you going to play it by ear? what about the shopping...how do you do it? is it one big shop then lots of smaller or weekly shops or just pick up the reduced stuff when you see it? do you batch cook 1 recipe at a time?
full of questions meand full of admiration...may i wish you and yours the best of british and roll on xmas :xmassign:
ang xx
Morning all! so many folk have popped in so far and I haven't time before work to respond to all, but will later! As angchris has asked some questions I'll respond to these tho!
I do have some recipes in mind, but I hang onto them fairly openly so I can be flexible when I see a fantastic foraging opportunity, like the cache of little sour apples or the wild rocket.
I've just done (last weekend) an enormous shop (for me!:o:o) it cost £44, for quite a while it'll just be top ups. I'll post what I bought and what I plan to do with it later and you can have a look-see;)
About once every 3 weeks in the last challenge, I'd pop to asda on a whoopsie hunt, but only allow myself £2 or something, and only mega bargains. 2 of note were 200g smokey ham for 5p which made 6 portions of amatriciana pasta sauce. Also a growing pot of organic flat-leafed parsley, which I've now cut back and regrown 3 times. Also for 5p.:T
Batch cooking-wise, I don't know exactly what I'll batch cook, but I've got a shopping list for the whole 6 months saved on mysupermarket. I can deviate from this, but only if I replace things with equal things, ie sommat which yields 6 evening meals gets replaced with sommat from a different shop which also yields 6 meals for cheaper, IYSWIM?:money:
Love to you all and have a great day, I'll be in later!:D
Weezl x

Good luck! (I know you'll do it!)
I loved the last thread, it has inspired me to cut down on our shopping list (and I thought £30 a week for 2 adults and a spoilt cat was good!!)

'Morning our weezl
Ye gods - doncha just know when you're beaten hands-down on the organisation front (looking at your post above). I couldnt begin to be that organised - I can just hear everyone else agreeing with me at this point (with rueful smiles on their faces). But it gives us all a point to aim towards - and perhaps we will be that bit more organised than we otherwise would be. Its incentivising me I know - goes off to have another satisfied smirk at my organised serried ranks of stocked-up food I've been encouraged into doing....;) Gawd..my kitchen and foodbuying just function so much more efficiently these days...:D With my (largely) organic foodbuying I havent the remotest hope of coming anywhere near Weezl's "financial league" - but I guess the plus side of that is that those prices sure function as an incentive to doing a bit of food planning and not wasting any food if I can help it. So - this is all grist to t'mill - giving me ideas about best usage of my resources.0 -
You moved......I didn't know you'd left yet:( ......you never said where you wuz goe-win:cool: ..........

Aww....Well Done Weezlie Monkey-peeps! So very well deserved.....
Wanted to tell you this while it is still relatively fresh in the old noggin. From yesterday's Daily Express health pages:-
Veg of the Week: COURGETTES
Blah Blah Blah.....
quote "DID YOU KNOW: The flower of the courgette plant is edible [<<<<<<<:T ]--as long as you cook it. Remove the stem and pistils from the flower, wash and dry before frying, baking or sauteeing it." unquote
They also recommend www.iminseason.com for --strangely enough--fruit & veg in season:p Haven't visited yet mesen so couldn't say if there are other tips. HTH.Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.
