had a quick look, but didn't turn anything up. thought someone may already have tried it and be able save me some time (feeling lazy tonight  )

am at daughter's for the 4th night in a row (with younger grand-daughter, while daughter is at hospital with post-op elder grand-daughter), so am on a broadband dongle (left by son who went to Germany last Sunday) rather than my normal speedy home connection -- so an attempt at an in-depth Google will have to wait until tomorrow if I get chance. (And every possibility I won't as I plan to do a complete stock-take on my freezers, fridge and cupboards while hubby is out at hospital for the bulk of the day - and while grand-daughter is at nursery!)

Already know I probably won't have chance to do anything on Wednesday (hence bringing my planned stock-take forward a day) as my Dad's due over to help with some DIY.

    Hi!

I often buy peppers when marked down and chop them and freeze them without any partial cooking, and then just throw a handful into whatever I am cooking. I also do the same with mushrooms and various other veg and haven't had a disaster yet

Never tried it with onions before, but worth a go?!

  • Hi cheryl, i have just bagged onions and put them in the freezer..seems ok. With the peppers, i did read you can do the same, but i prefer to blanch them quickly and then bag and freeze after..with onions i think they are so watery that any other way may just make them soggy.

Zoe Girl - any chance of your dough recipe that's suitable for freezing for pizzas please?

Also does anyone have any cookie dough recipes that can be frozen please? I haven't made any biscuits for ages but have just saved the hob nob one to do tomorrow :D

I've done that with peppers and whenever I've taken a handful from the freezer to go in a sauce and they've been fine. :)

My mum has sent me a couple of recipes for biscuits - some nice ginger biccies are going on my baking list. Saturday is going to be a baking day, so I think some bread, biscuits and a cake is in order. I'm going to be making my own wedding cake (One of them, at least) so I'll be trying to do that as frugally as possible!

  • I think this recipe could have been posted on 'things only you eat' but it seemed worthy of a mention on this thread...

My inspiration came from my love of a well-known brand's chicken noodle soup. I liked to heat it up with a few slices of fresh chilli (I am a chilli maniac), then, during a particularly frugal time, I thought, well, surely I can produce something similar. So, if you fancy some Thai soup - high in flavour, low in calories, try this: about 400ml water, good tablespoon veg bouillon, chilli to taste, cornflour mixed with water to desired consistency, some thai fish sauce if you have any (I hardly ever use this, but would be more authentic), bits of left over roast chicken if you have any ( but to be honest, I make it without most of the time). If you want really filling up have it with pasta (it will be a kind of 'pasta soup' as I call it). It costs literally pennies, but has max flavour. You could add any veg you want to it.

cw18 I freeze peppers & mushrooms all the time, onions too because I mainly use them in cooking so soggy doesn't really matter to me ;) For onions & peppers I just slice, dice and bag them up,then I just give the bag a bit of a shake every hour or so until they've frozen to stop them freezing in a solid lump. For mushrooms I slice or halve them and give them a little turn in a pan with some sunflower oil, spread flat on a tray and then bag them once frozen. HTH :D
