  • Hi all.

Munchki, (((hugs))) to you and your DH, it's a scary thing to have happen, but often it leads onto better things, so I hope that's the case here.

I had a big "using up fresh" evening last night because I'm gonig away for the weekend, so I stewed down the remainer of the plums I got at the weekend and diluted and froze the pulp into little sorbet lollies and then reduced the baby tomatoes I had with a splash of aged balsamic which'll be lovely over some pasta when I get home on Sunday :D

I've been slipping a bit during the day and buying things at MrT on the way into work, so I think for next week I need to plan lunches that are a bit more exciting, and bring them in with me.

I'm not good with bread, because that means I can't have any more wheat products that day, and I get quite hungry, so I need elevensies really, as well as lunch. Any ideas for nummy cheap pack ups, gratefully received?

Hey Munchki, I lurk here mostly but wanted to come up for air and say hi and sorry to hear your news. I have fingers crossed something will come up...

Also wanted people's advice - I have a Swan slow cooker and made the yoghurt as per instructions (600ml milk) and added 3 tablespoons live yoghurt. Didn't come out very Yoghurty so next time I added 4 tablespoons of live yoghurt. I have now strained that one in muslin, it thickened it but it's still not as yoghurty as I'd like - any tips?

Also wondering if it's as moneysaving as I thought, as the starter small yoghurt was £0.50p and then the milk works out around £0.40p maybe (longlife)... I guess once I get the balance right and the flavour, I could make another batch from what I have made... any advice much appreciated as I love the idea of making my own in a gadget I already have.

I too am not convinced it is cheaper but it does taste nicer IMHO

Did you add the milk powder and what type milk(full fat /skimmed) did you use this makes a difference

Hi Shaz thanks for the quick answer - I did not add any milk powder (but I have some) - so how much would I add? Also the milk was semi skimmed long life, to be healthier... also because I have around 16 packs of the stuff from our last ADSA delivery... I just want it to be a sharper taste really x

Sammy Kaye, I'm afraid something that is a diuretic makes you wee more, not retain it, so giving up coffee won't help the weight loss, sorry.

2 tablespoons of dried milk works for me for a sharper taste you need to leave it longer it gets sharper with time .....strange i like h/m because its less sharp thane store bought

Thanks Shaz - maybe the one I have in the fridge will sharpen a little by tomorrow then, although I did not add the dried milk to that batch. To me the current batch tastes too milky you see... x
