Sammy, Claero - I have 2 bottles of cola left and then i'm on to the caffiene free lifestyle.. i'm really not looking forward to the headache that comes along with it for the first few days but for reducing spending its a must, we should all attend Caffiene-aholics Anonymous!!:undecided

Shala - I didnt have a headache and considering ive been having tea/coffee since i was 14/15 - im now 24 i thought it was going to hurt like hell quite frankly. But i found i cut out tea/coffee but kept on coke but one little bottle of coke i made last me all day so i still had a little bit there but was downing it at every given opportunity and once it was gone for the day it was gone. Did that for two days, then like i said sunday i had a can on my lunch break and nothing since. I havent had a headache - my head felt sort fo blurry but no pain for two days and now i feel fine - i do keep thinking im tasting tea in my mouth now but think that just a craving thing and im drinking things like , milk, water and fruit juice which is helping me get past it.

Sammy_kaye, enough is enough, boiled pigs' heads and foraging nettles I can get fully on board, but cutting out caffeine, how can you even suggest it?

Sian the green - yeah its more of a medical thing that Ive given up the caffeine though not for fun - believe me! Hoping my anaemia will get better once this si gone as giving this up was the hardest thing and the doctors kept telling me off for my vast caffeine intake! Was even good at MIL yesterday who as soon as i walked through the door offered me a cuppa! Thinking I may get a little box of decaf teabags to keep in my handbag so if i do go to her house we can have a cuppa together, because the only juice she has is summer fruits which contains Cherry so i cant drink it. Supposably caffeine is a diuretic too but I have no idea (makes you retain water incase someone doesnt know) so cant be bad, may help the diet if nothing else.

    Anyway.......5 days caffeine free.

Anyone have any ideas on nice drinks i can have too?? Im not keen on these fruity tea bags you can get despite making my nan a hamper full of them last year for her christmas present as she is allergic to somethign in regular tea bags. Im getting a bit fed up of plain water (dont mind evian) but our tap water tastes c**p and milk.
    Time to find me again

You could maybe look into doing fruit &/or veg juices Sistercas, that may even help with increasing your iron absorbtion......ask our Weezl cuz I think she did summat similar on the last thread. I've a soda stream thingy too, altho a model that Noah rescued from the flood & the bottles are weeny, but I do like my fizzy water. Read somewhere that carbonated water increases the blood flow to the brain--& I need all the help I can get in that dept:p

Can I suggest a visit to the current Grocery Challenge thread for some exceptional recipe ideas to make the money--& ingredients--go further? I'm 99% certain that someone on there has found a way of making their own tortilla chips from sheets of lasagne:eek: so if I find it before you do, I'll post it ok.

I don't like tap water, and can't drink vast quanities of the plain bottled stuff either -- don't feel like I've had a drink somehow

So what I do is buy a 1 litre bottle of flavoured water (normally sparkling to get the flavours I like) which I find is actually too strongly flavoured for me, and then dilute it with a 2 litre bottle of plain water (normally Mr T value, and often the sparkling one). Get's it to a flavour level I can cope with, and also dramatically reduces the cost compared to drinking the flavoured stuff 'neat'.

First few dilutions were problematic (nothing to mix into), but I now hang onto a couple of empty bottles and use those ;)

Thanks Weezl, he can be a real sweetie sometimes, but then at others the teenage head rears its ugly self.

Both boys have always saved their pocket money, birthday/xmas money to buy their own PS/Wii games. Last summer between them they bought the Wii console and extra bits having saved their money up throughout the year.

Have you tried slices of lemon in hot water? My friend and I do it successfully, she even managed to swap for her first tea of the day. You can slice the lemon and freeze the unused portions, then each time you make a drink take a slice from the freezer. It may seem bland at first but suprising how quickly you get used to it. Can also add honey if needed/liked. If not liked hot let it cool and try again, sometimes is better cooled.

    Just a tiny little moan.........

The really bad day has gotten even worse today.....

Completely out of the blue, my DH got called back up to the office and was just made redundant. No warning, no nothing. Well i dont think there is much else that can go wrong today eh?

On a positive note, we have our health, full pantry and freezer and most importantly....each other. Of course I know that DH is NOT going to be in the best of moods etc tonight so think I shall be walking on eggshells and supplying lots of hugs and cuddles when needed:A

*saunters back into the darkness* Thank you for listening all.

Hugs to you both. Hope he finds something soon.

  • Quick question. How do you know if/when windfall apples are OK to eat? My friend's apple tree always looses fruit early but she is worried about using the fallen apples incase they upset family's tummies. I'm sure there will be lots of apples about soon to help with this challenge but how do you know if OK? We thought they should be ready end Aug beg Sept but could this be an early fruiting tree?

hi procrastinator. Windfalls are fine to use. You can just cut out the bits that have gone a bit manky or that the bugs/birds have got at. Just have a look at them. Annoyingly usually one side is fine and the other has started to turn rotten or has been nibbled at but they will be fine to use if you cut that bit off. My SIL and I found a tree a couple of years ago and used quite lot of the windfalls and we are still alive and kicking!sport-smiley-001.gif
